Perspectives on NEEDS and how we fill them

As of now without considering who could be where in the draft and what FA moves could be made:

1-WR Has been and still is our big need. We need more weapons on this team

2-OG (Hang'man is baaaaad, a road grader is desperately needed)

3-CB (especially if Gamble is gone; Josh Thomas is the only for sure guy imo at the position)

4-NT/DT (D'wan is good with Kearse, Chandler, & Neblett about avg.; we also rotate Alexander and Hardy inside for some of our sets...we really need help here but not necessarily rd1 priority imo)

5-OT (This will be 1 or 2 if Gross is gone)

6-S

If we keep Gross, I would seriously be down for a Johnthan Banks/Quinton Patton type combo in 1/2

1. If Josh Thomas is the only sure thing (which he really isn't a sure thing) Then how is CB not numer 1?

2. Dwan is a FA and Neblett is a RFA. DT is a way bigger need then WR.

Our biggest problems last year (beyond coaching) imo extended from not being able to shut the door on opponents. We couldn't close on offense and move the chains when necessary. That makes OL and WR important imo. Also, this is a very good guard class, a position that is relatively accesible in the market on the availability and financial fronts.

D'wan should be the one we try to re-sign after we release and restructure some others. I'd love to take Banks so my 1 & 2 are very close. I just think we need to gain that edge where we don't even give opponents a chance by giving them the ball back. But bigger picture: Getting weapons, a cornerback, stabilizing the line, and DT help are all crucial in their own way and I want addressed. No single one seems to soar above the other need wise. We have big holes in various places.

Work for cap space, find who they like/want in the FA market, BPA in the draft with these needs in mind, reassess the FA.

I think our salary cap challenges present a major hole that will require the panthers to take action in the draft. I see us trading back and taking the best remaining receiver in the first round.

In a deep draft I hope some team gets fascinated with a players and trades up. I agree with the assessment given earlier that it takes a season for a receiver to develop into a bonafide #1 so we need to draft him this year. I think we can get a second or early third round pick this year by trading back where we can address DT and offensive guard. Unfortunately we will probably have to ride out the tackle tandem of Bell and Gross for one more year.

More questions than answers my friend.

1. My biggest question is how much input will Rivera have in this draft being it is produce or perish this year? Or is he a lame duck?

2 Who will be the most likely cap causalities? I see Gross, Gamble, R Edwards, and Anderson as potential causalities.....I do not see us keeping both Gross and Gamble ..my bet is we retain Gross. If we lose Gross we will need to replace him with a 1st round pick

3.Which one of our FAs do we try to retain? I hope like hell it is D Edwards or we will need at least to spend a 1st or 2nd at UT.

4. Can we afford or risk not taking a wr in the 1st or 2nd round? If Smitty goes down our season will be over for sure

5.What impact player in the draft will give Rivera the most production? Does Gettleman care or is he building toward the following year? This off- season should demonstrate if they are connected at the hip or is this the second coming of the J Fox 2010 lame duck season award ?

6.Is anyone curious as why Gettlemen has not brought in a staff to speak of?

7.Can anyone see a scenario where we can avoid multiple cuts to stay under the cap? If yes please show your math

8.We need at least a OG, back up qb and safety to even show up next year...how can we make the cuts for the cap and fill these positions?

9.If we let R Edwards go can we stop the run and get some push without drafting a NT?

10. Will this draft be about putting the final pieces in place or replacing cap causalities?

If someone can answer these questions I will then be ready to give my mock draft

you build a team around your franchise qb which is cam

so offense first.(ol,wr,rb)of course you wont need rb

then defense(dt,cb/s,lb) dline is closer to ball and can have a faster affact of making qb force ball or get sacked..

even though thats right i might go with a cb first since it looks like a coupe of good ones could still be around in the 2nd(trufant,blidi,rhodes) and a some good dts(hughes, hill, wailliams) could still be around in the 4th.

also panthers already have two good de and that line is not far from being pretty good.

so if we trade back in the first.

2.wr

My biggest problem with the WR thing is I don't remember 1 game the WR cost us.

Kansas City comes to mind when Lafell dropped that wide open touchdown that would have sealed it. Also in Dallas game(and others) Murphy had key drops that killed us at the end. I don't want to reach for a WR(I say we take BPA out of our needs)but if Patterson kills it at the combine and Proehl can coach his raw ability up it would be hard to be mad about that pick. DT and OG are easier to find cheap vet help at.

yeah you cant tell him that the panthers dont have allstar wrs lol dude is in his own world lol^^^

panthers need a star deep threat wideout real bad.

Right on. Yeah I remember the Lafell is all-world speech too. When receivers drop 3rd down passes and tds particularly in the 2nd half that costs you games. I just have this crazy idea that if we can let Steve play his last couple years with an above average receiver it will help us win games. We could make a Cris Carter/Moss, Rice/T.O, Boldin/T Smith, even Moose/Smith situation here.
