Rivera talked to (wanted?) Norv

Man, you guys are really something. Did it ever occur to you that by the time Rivera knew he needed an OC, Norv, Chud had already offered him the job? How was Rivera supposed to get Norv when he basically already had a job?

Being disgruntled doesn't necessarily mean you need to go off your rocker with these sad scenarios. Something displeases you, blame Rivera. OK, why not?

All this constant negativity has the Huddle falling down my lists of place to visit. If I wanted to hate the Panthers I couldn't do better than hanging around here.

I'll see you all in the preseason.

Yeah, I didn't mean for this thread to devolve into a Rivera bashfest. I was pissed when the Shula promotion was first announced, but I've come to terms with it. My point in posting this thread was that it feels like Chud sort of back channeled Norv before he had even gotten a second interview (hell, the minute he was requested to interview for the first time, he may have called Norv and asked him to be his OC in case he gets the job). Obviously, that left us out in the cold with the best possible replacement for Chud going to work for Chud instead.

Anyway, our coaching staff is in place for at least this season, and it doesn't really do any good to be all doom and gloom about them. If they don't perform, they'll be out, but at this point, there's nothing we can do.

I dont think the browns need any bad ju-ju from us here to suck....Brandon Weeden (aka Chris Weinke 2.0), will give them all the suckitude they need. Chuds in for a rude awakening going from Cam to Weeden.

I don't know what browns games you.watched.

Most likely zero.

Weeden is pretty good.

Chud made Derek Anderson a probowler.

I'm sure Chud can work well with Weeden.

Because many Huddler's felt he should have had the cajones to fire Chud after the 2012 season in the first place. And now Ron is telling us, 'I wanted Norv. But by the time I contacted him, the deal was already made with Chud and Norv to go to Cleveland'.That's why. It's only another example of Rivera being passive, moving slow again and losing out.

Ironically, Chud couldn't have gotten the Cleveland HC job with out Norv either. SMH

It sounds like we were caught pretty off-guard by the Chud hiring. With it happening so fast, it seems like Chud had already set up a direct line to Norv before he was even hired. Which is pretty lame... We should have just fired him immediately and started talking to Norv before anything else could happen.

any coach interviewing for a hc position can make a a good impression by already having a list of coaches he would include on his staff.

I guess you just wing it in an interview.

You can't blame Rivera for Norv not replacing Chud, not at all...that's insane. He wasn't a step slower or behind the curve. He knew Chud was interviewing for the position, but he interviewed for three HC positions last offseason and ended up staying. He couldn't go making contingency plans when he didn't even know if his OC was leaving.

Boy, do you guys forget the circumstances really easily. From Day One of Chud's hire in Cleveland their FO acted like Chud had been talking with Norv for quite some time. If not directly (Norv was on vacation, remember?) at least through his son.

We were also, and most importantly, without a GM. Maybe JR asked Rivera to wait with new hires until he hired a GM. Respecting the position, anticipating that the new GM would want to have input into the hirings. Or Rivera decided on his own to be respectful of his future boss. Either way, he did what he felt was the right thing to do. And I agree.

Rivera was not slow. Chud had the edge in this one, whether or not it was the right way to do business, no matter when anyone else talked to Norv.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if there didn't end up being a tampering charge leveled at Cleveland about hiring Chud.

Why not? That is what smart, forward thinkers do.

You don't wait until events happen, and then say, oh okay, I better think about what I'm going to do now.

The organization was slow and indecisive this offseason. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't, but from JR on down, we were not decisive in resolving our coaching staff issues.

that works its way down to the field as well.

so afraid of making the wrong decisions that we wait until it's too late to make the best one.

ya'll are missing the wild card here......

I believe a man took advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity............ to work with his son.

if young Mr. Turner had stayed here...........we'd have both.

I also think Scott was the main factor here.

Sounds like Chudzinski was discussing the possibilities with Scott ahead of time ("hey, if I get a head coaching job..."). To be fair, that's a lot easier discussion to have than "Hey Norv, if you get canned..."
