Lot of Haterade being drank around here. He recognized the issues he was having in the first half of the season and turned it around. Sure it seemed slightly reminiscent of 2011, but I believe he actually learned more about coaching this year than last. You guys need to be optimistic, sure its possible he could fall flat on his face and lose his job halfway through the season, but until then I will support my coach and hope for the best until proven otherwise. I suggest you guys do the same or else you're pessimism is only going to continue to fester until you're a complete cynic.

when they asked him if next year is a playoffs or bust year, he answered 'well we could go 9 and 7 maybe...'

that's the fire you like to see in a coach!

It would be stupid to say it will be a playoffs or bust year if he is talking in context to keeping his job. He could be like Lovie and go 10-6 and not make the playoffs yet have a great year.

Do you honestly think that the team goal next year will be to make the playoffs or will everyone be happy to go 9-7?? Seriously?? Sometimes the nitpicky comments are ridiculous.

All I'm saying is people here (not naming names) are acting like they desperately want him to fail, trying to find any reason, no matter how small, to ridicule the guy (and pointlessly and repetively compare him ever so jealously to Jim Harbaugh)... He obviously needs to start hot and make the playoffs this year for him have any chance at staying but since he's the coach now lets just have some faith and see what happens instead of making this place miserable by the constant and pointless ridicule that goes on here And no, I'm not saying he's the best coach ever and he doesn't deserve the criticism he gets either as he obviously has plenty to improve on as a coach.. It's just frusturating and quite frankly depressing to see everyone here constantly rag on him for every little thing, like radio interviews and the performance of other coaches.

And tell me specifically where he was complaining? I didnt get a hint of that at all.. just felt like he who was pleading his case as to why he should be given one more chance to prove himself. And honest question, If he were to go on the show to just say "I don't need to explain why I should still be here, I'm good with the X's and O's and that's that!" And then hang up, how would you feel about him? Would you feel confident in him?

It is not Rivera's fault he is here. That's Hurney's and JR's fault. They made the decision.

He can save his 'i had to learn' and 'its a process' and and and for somebody else's time and money.

He was brought in as a HC, not an apprentice HC.

Last I looked at my PSL invoice it didn't say, 'hey, we have hired an apprentice head coach who really really wants to do good and he's a nice guy to boot'.

You see, I don't care about somebody's 'want to' or somebody's 'desire'. He can get better on someobody else time and $$s.

The fact is in 2 years he has not beaten an elite team that is still in the playoff hunt and usually elite teams come with elite coaches. I have seen nothing in his 'xs and os' that tells me he can beat a top tier coach. He thinks he can, he wants to, ok, show me. Show me throughout the season that you can do it.

Show me against the better and elite teams in this league your team does not get beat by 30 plus points because you failed to adjust your x and os or failed to do schemes that put what talent you have in the best position possible. Not what you 'think' they can do but what are they 'capable' of doing based on what you know as a coach, based on their skill sets and film study.

Maya Angelou once said, and I wish I had lived this earlier in my life, 'when people show you what they are believe them'. I would add to that ending, 'the first time'.

I think Ron Rivera is a very good man, a very good person, a very good DC, I do not believe he will ever be an elite coach or a coach that takes the Panthers to better than 8-8 or 9-7 and that's if the schedule is weak.

I pray I'm wrong because one thing is certain, until I sell those damned PSLs, a check for $4200 every April goes to the organization that hired him.

During his first press conference he said we have a great young Quarterback...so I don't think he was talking about Pickles

This quote should be added to the bible, Koran, Book of Mormon, encyclopedia britanica, and any other book people go to for wisdom and inspiration.

That response was obviously a tactical move on his part. Especially after Multiple Super Bowl Guarantees were made last year to include a full page ad in the Charlotte Observer. I think it's a smart move on his part to intentionally temper expectations, so that when we exceed them it makes everyone feel better about it.

But most of you geniuses don't have a lot of common sense, if any to come to such a difficult conclusion.

If he does read the huddle, I'm sure he prints out pages intentionally so that he can wipe his ass with them.

tell me more about common sense and how Arian Foster "lost his killer instinct" and will suck in 2012.

excuses are often based on fact and then spun to try and explain failure

In all failures there are reasons. The ones Rivera stated seemed to be justifiable to his supporters. To those that don't support him, no matter what he said wouldn't be justifiable but only seen as a cop out, instead of cold hard facts. Fans need to lighten up on the mans case until he proves this season, one way or the other, that he is capable of leading the team in an upward trend.

All to often fans of the 32 NFL teams get carried away and want an instant Super Bowl or playoff team and when this doesn't happen they want a whole new coaching staff/wholesale personnell change, etc. Patience is something the average NFL seems to lack and every year the trend seems to get worse..
