Offensive quality control asst

Are we not going to fill that position? I can understand Shula being OC/QB coach, but are we really not going to get him some help, especially since it's been so long that Shula has actually called plays?

So, it seems we are kinda understaffed.

Talking out of your ass?

No, talking from hours and hours of reading about football. Why would you even go after someone unprovoked? Sam Mills son has the Defensive job and has held it through coaching changes because it's not considered a vital position that requires a special guy. All they do is watch film, count tackles, credit players with yards and receptions, and count mistakes. They need a working knowledge of football but they are supervised errand runners. Notice both our quality control guys got their jobs in the league via nepotism not merit.

I have no doubt they break down footage and make suggestions to the coaches. Their job is vital to the operation. But it is not a highly skilled position and it's mostly clerical, involving game tape and game plans.

QC coaches tend to be guys who are working their way up to position coaching on whatever side of the ball they're assigned to.

Their duties generally involve things like film study but the position is loosely defined so they can be assigned just about anything you want.

Lots of good position coaches and even some OCs and DCs got started this way.

Think of it as an apprenticeship.
