Bobcats "very active" as tradeline approaches

The team’s brain trust seems to be aware of this, and Michael Jordan has instructed his president and GM to work the phones to try to improve the roster before the upcoming trade deadline passes.

From Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer:

While [president of basketball operations Rod Higgins] isn’t predicting a screech of the brakes and a yank on the steering wheel, his tone sounded different Thursday: The Bobcats are definitely in the market for some kind of change.

“We’re very active – our owner wants us to be active,’’ Higgins told the Observer in regard to the Feb. 21 trade deadline.

Higgins said owner Michael Jordan has given Higgins and general manager Rich Cho “the green light to go out and make this team better…I don’t think there’s any limits to what we’d try to do.’’

Ben Gordon might be the player the Bobcats would like to move in exchange for some additional talent. He can still score when given the opportunity, but is the fourth guard on the team in terms of minutes distribution behind Walker, Gerald Henderson, and Ramon Sessions.

the more and more i think about it- i would be happier if we kept Hendo (if extended) and traded Taylor..

Absolutely not. Taylor is the type of piece a winning team needs. Henderson is not. Taylor will be one of the top defenders in the league for a long time and gives us a really good 3 point threat. There really is nothing special that stands out about Henderson besides being able to get us a better trade.

I'm honestly a fan of Hendo and what he can bring to a team, but I don't think that he will improve much more and it isn't in the teams best interest to sign him long term. We need our SG spot occupied by Shabazz or Wiggins in the future. MKG will never be a huge offensive threat imo (Iggy or Crash in his best years) so we will definitely need a superstar scorer at SG next to Kemba who is ideally a very good #3 option.

I'm praying we can somehow land Shabazz in the draft to play SG for us. We desperately need that kind of scorer. He and Wiggins are the two next greats.

I agree we need his scoring, but I have to say if we do that- then we AGAIN are sweeping the major issue under the rug. We would have to address PF/C in free agency and throw big bucks to some other name and hope he chases the money instead of the ability to win a title somewhere else.. who 'said' player is- i dont know

We are so guard heavy and our defense is atrocious because we have to collapse on the guy driving into the lane because no one down there can stop them.. We need someone down low- like a Alex Len who can develope into a Brook Lopez type player..

Augustine over Lopez still makes me cry...

poo, that wasnt even the worst part. Bobcats had 2 top 20 picks in the 2008 draft and had an opportunity to draft all of the following bigs-

Brook Lopez

Roy Hibbert

Serge Ibaka

Robin Lopez

Kosta Koufos

Javale Mcgee

Ryan Anderson

Omer Asik

Nikola Pekovic

Deandre Jordan

JJ Hickson

For christ sake that draft produced almost half the starting centers in the NBA and the Bobcats ended up with DJ and Alexis Ajinca

At that time, though Ajinca was in the same company as those guys. Nobody knew how they would pan out. None of them are stars.

    • I'm going with Robinson tonight.
    • I've watched and listened to several evaluations from the good ole youtubers.  From what I was able to watch, the first few drives before I left to do a job to the end of the game were very different for Bryce.  So he had a "good" game.  Which is great.  I love a win, period.  His WRs had some drops, thing ripped away, etc.  Not great, but a W is a W, right? I think the Panthers have to start Bryce.  You have to see if he continues to build on the good plays and make fewer and fewer bad plays.  No QB is going to play a perfect game.  But we need to continue to see Bryce make plays.  Does he have the ability to will his team to victory?  I'm not sure. I'm still in the Bryce is a backup QB camp.  I'm glad he had a good game, I glad we won, but I need to see more before we make a decision to keep or trade him.  Playing Andy literally does NOTHING to help you for the future.  Andy may not even resign with the Panthers.  We could be out both starting QBs by the time FA/Draft season hits. Ultimately, this is a Dan Morgan and Dave Canales issue.  Can they get value out of Bryce to help them improve the total roster?  Is there a FA QB who would be an upgrade?  A surprise cut or post season trade?  Or is there a QB at the top of the draft who they think they can mold into a high level starting QB?  I don't know. I do know I want to see more of Bryce Young and more out of him on the field.  I want to see the fire, the competitor come out.  I want him getting pissed.  I want him to grab his beanbag and tell us all he's the f'ing dude.  I just don't think we'll see that out of Bryce.  If not the fire, then let me see the ice - let me see the rattle proof dude who kills with accuracy and playmaking no matter how hot and crazy it gets.
