Cam having the freedom of changing plays at the LOS?

Pantherman

Recommended Posts

As I look at this Falcons and 49ers game. I see a guy in Kaep. who only has played 10 games in his career as a starter in the NFL and going to the SB. He is allowed to change plays at the LOS. But yet when I see the Panther games. I rarely see Cam changing plays when he needs to. To avoid the pass rush and so on. Why is it that Ron want give him that kind of freedom to do that. Maybe that is one of the problems with Cam right now. Cam is 2 years in and still not been able to change the plays and Kaep. only 10 games into his career is been able to do it. Doesn't make no sense what so ever.

Cam actually did it in his first few games, successfully. Gross or Khalil, have already confirmed and discussed this. But it appears that Chud put the Kabosh on that. It wasn't so much a "Cam can't pre-read defenses issue".

Apparently, Chud didn't want Cam to change the plays (except some what, from a chosen few maybe, which he didn't use all too much), cause he had the plays worked out in advance. They weren't situational. That's why Chud's play calling would seem so out of wack sometime (unless it was the end of the game or second half and Rivera just wanted him to run the ball up the middle). He stuck to his play calling, regardless. This was probably another reason, the Panthers were poor in 2nd half adjustments. So when it was left up to Chud (with out any Rivera directives), he didn't want his plays changed. That was well known, and has been reported.

It wasn't until later in the season (after Hurney got fired and the various adjustments to the offense), when you started to see Cam doing it more later in the season. At that point, Rivera was desperate, and had nothing to lose.

I'm sure with Shula--next year, you'll see it all the time. Steve Smith, was quite vocal on WFNZ this week, about Chud 'stuffing plays down our throats that don't work, and not listening or hearing advice from the other offensive coaches'. Yes he did!

I made a comment in the other thread asking what game did our offense look like we particularly game-planned against the opponent?

I can tell things never changed, it was either we execute what's called or we don't

But do you have a link?

You mean a link discussing Chud's offensive (and sticking to it)? Or are you talking about Cam's first few games when he changed the alignment at the line of scrimmage?

For either, I'd have to research/find them again. But I did read/remember them.

For the Steve Smith quote. It depends if FNZ has the entire time he was on, with the response to callers. That response was from a Q & A with the callers, and he was on all day if I reckon.
