I Can See Why Most of You Hate Time Warner

twc has a stronghold on charlotte. only a handful of people i know have uverse and i wonder whatever happened to fios.

i love roadrunner, but if i could do something dif for tv that would be cool.

we may just buy a smart tv soon, cut cable, stream movies thru hulu and netflix. the only trick would be sports.

We ditched satellite and use Netflix and all the other apps on xbox. Most major sporting events come on the networks so an antenna works fine. I do miss espn and nflnetwork. Just got a roku for my sons and they enjoy it. Nowhere TV is a private channel and has tons of content.

I think we're about to switch to ATT...it will save us $40 a month and we'll be able to tape 4 shows at once vs 2 and have the option to watch dvr'd shows in the bedroom.....

has anyone switched to ATT from TWC???

switched from DirecTV to ATT uverse. Love it. Saved alot

lol my praise in this thread jinxed me...

We had lost services one day back in December, and I did the online chat option to make sure we'd be credited for the time lost. We got our bill with no credit and, since they never emailed me the chat log like they were supposed to, I had no idea what date I talked to someone and what was said.

I went back in to the chat thing, waited my turn, and eventually got someone (I go this route because you typically have to wait over 30 minutes when you call on the phone, and ain't nobody got time for that!). I told the person (presumably offshore) or robot I was chatting with about the situation, and they said they'd just credit us $20. Cool! No argument from me considering one day's worth of service was like $4. I asked in the chat though, at least twice, that they make sure to email me the chat log for my records. We paid the amount owed (minus the $20 credit), which I verified the exact amount with the chat entity, that day.

I never got the chat log.

Yesterday, we again lost all services for around 6 hours or so. No biggie. We took that time to run some errands and stuff. We did make note of it though.

Fast forward to today.

My wife calls me first thing this morning because she was emailed a notice threatening to turn off all our services because we had a past due amount of... $20. She had already got someone on the phone, whom she said had an attitude about the whole situation, and they had no record of us being told we'd get a $20 credit. Basically my wife told them how shitty their service had gotten, and told the TWC lady "that's fine, bitch, I'll have my husband call back." lol

I called them up and explained the situation. I was told that I could be given a one time grace credit because I was told that it would be a $20 credit (apparently they can't even look up their own chat logs, at least in billing). I'm thinking to myself "one time my ass... If you screw up again you'll do it again..."

The lady I was speaking to was giving me the amount due, post-credit, when the phone on her end went dead... lol... I said hello at least 30-40 times, and finally her end hung up the call. I called back and got a nice guy in SC that gave me the amount, and then applied the credit for yesterday's lost services too.

In the end, they made things right. But, they'd save themselves and their customers a lot of time if they'd fix their broken customer service system (especially the chat service) and handled business the right way (like not threatening to end an at-least 10 year customer's service over a one month overdue $20, via email.)

Yep... Call them up. Wait for like 30 minutes if you call in the middle of the day. Tell the first real person you speak to that you're thinking about cancelling your services and want to speak to someone in the Retention dept.

Make up some bullshit about how you've talked with the dish companies, etc. and that they can give you the same services you get now with TWC for like $30 or more less a month. Ask them what they can do to keep you.

For the most part, this has worked 99% of the time for me. The one time or so it didn't, I call back a day later and get a different person on the line.

Just like my HBO example, they'll even take half off on some things.

i just told them to give me the introductory offers or I was leaving. I told them I could either leaven and go to fios or easily re-up in my wife's name and get them anyway, so why don't we just save everybody a lot of time and just reduce my rate.

Dont know how anyone could consider TWC good. I called to see about getting a one year introductory offer and the rep was so bad (she was eastern european) I couldn't stand to try to speak with her anymore. I had to politely hang up.

Next day I called again and was talking to "Phil" (from Mombai?) and was shocked to learn that TWC only allows two channels to be recorded at once. "Oh just get a second DVR" how nice for them and their extra $. Every one of their competitors offers at least 4 channel recording. They are behind the times.

back when i lived in western NC everybody used to trash charter. cheap leased modems, weak customer service, etc.

i discovered that i didn't know the meaning of shitty until i moved out to time warner country. they're awful and i expect them to go scorched earth trying to keep google fiber from launching in the carolinas if/when that happens. i did some comparison shopping and what you get for $120 from google destroys the poo sandwich time warner is serving up.
