Continuity not Capability

You would think that the offense had not been dynamic with all the talk about continuity versus capacity. Exactly what did Jackson or Shurmur do that would produce a higher scoring offense that we have had the past 2 years. What is wrong with keeping the same system and keeping continuity. That is considered one of the things that all teams strive for, yet it is being cast as settling or undesirable based on the OP's response. Our offense has been one of the best one's we have had in our history. What Shula is likely to do is improve the running game and go to more power sets which is what we did at the end in 2012 with great success. Honestly I understand the concern based on what he failed to do in Tampa, but this is not the same offense and has none of the same pieces.

I don't think we need or want a change from what we were doing. Just tweaking it somewhat which is what Shula will do. Why change horses in the middle of the stream when what we are doing is working? And working well.......

I feel like we would excel in a simple run first offense...just my opinion. Ride Stew, Tolbert, and maybe Williams all day and make Cam a glorified game manager. He's never going to be Brady or Manning and there is nothing wrong with that.

That's closer to the classic version of Erhardt-Perkins (what the Steelers run)

I think Gettleman and Richardson also see it being easier to clean house next year if needed. Won't have to think about firing a one-year Panther coach.

While they might consider that as a benefit, it won't be a driving factor. They expect to win next year just like they did this year. Expectations will be even higher. If this year looked like a repeat of 2004, then we can all hope that next year will resemble 2005, at least in terms of making the playoffs. Richardson hired Gettleman to get the talent and manage the cap. He kept Rivera because he thinks he is trending upwards and realizes we were a half dozen plays from the playoffs in 2012. With even better talent we might make those half dozen plays or at least make our share.

How, why would you say this?

1) The NFL is not built that way. You have to score. And you do that through the passing game.

2) Why would you say Cam is never going to be that way? Just look at the offense in 2011, and the end of 2012. I think that's quite short sighted.

Remember, Cam's only going into his third year (and look at what he's already accomplished), and the offensive line, Read Option focus--first half, and play calling--through out the year, were horrendous in 2012. And this is before we factor in, giving Cam better receivers in the future; nor does he have an offensive minded Head Coach.

With the proper Offensive Line, coaching and self study/desire by Cam, the sky's the limit for him.

I think you're selling him short in that respect. Cam can be what ever he wants to be at this stage.

Now he just has to continue improving, and pick up where he left off, end of 2012.

Hopefully, Shula can assist in this?

We'll see?

Cam's accuracy is still horrible, I am far from being anti Cam, but the guy struggles to hit RBs on screens, overthrows intermediate routes, and leads his receivers out of bounds when throwing deep towards the sidelines. You can score on the ground, we do more than we pass for scores.

I wouldn't go as far as "horrible" but it's definitely inconsistent. That's the area of his game that arguably needs the most work.

Cam's accuracy IMO is only bad on the short throws. Mid to deep balls it is good for a 2nd year guy. When G play breaks down so does his accuracy pretty noticeably all around

Rivera has 2 years left on his contract and JR isnt even a big tipper.

So 2.8 million not to work in 2014 aint happenin'.

John Fox was one if the highest paid coaches in the league when here....look at the cap hell we are in and the contracts he gave.

You can argue some were not smart...but he is NOT cheap.

Well, we've watched many other QB's young and old, and many of them make the same mistakes to.

Cam's accuracy is not horrible. It's just inconsistent, as Mister Scot said later/after. It was much worse, first half of 2012.

Nontheless, Eli Manning, who's a 2X Superbowl winning QB, overthrows receivers short and deep all the time. As a matter of fact, I would actually compare Cam's throwing--as similar to what Eli's is now (as far as his abilities, throws and inconsistencies). So that's not a bad thing, during his 2nd year. Eli was much worse at the same stage.

I think a better offensive line, and less READ Option play calling will help Cam with his accuracy next year. Doesn't mean he'll be perfect. But it should be an improvement. I also think, if the Panthers had taller receivers (or ones that could post up and fight for or comeback to the ball), that would help Cam's accuracy-consistency as well, especially throwing to the end zone. Plus, we gotta remember, some poor looking throws, can also be due to pressure or shortened or broken WR routes. That has happened as well, whether acknowledged by the TV analyst or not.

Cam definitely has to work at his craft, and be aware of succumbing to any bad habits. But he would certainly appear better with proper play action , more time/i.e. a better offensive line.

Thanks for your comments/feedback.

Okay so the Colts hired Luck's old Stanford OC to be their new OC, and guess what the major factor was for the hire, which was stated by the Colts organization.

That's right you guessed it, CONTINUITY..........

That part may be true.

But at least he successfully called plays at Stanford.

That's more than what we can currently say for Shula at TB and Bama.

Just saying. :D

Not smart with his money in many ways and frugal in the others, both misguided at times. And I'll argue anything I want.
