For everyone that thinks our offense would be top-tier if Chud stopped going full-retard...

shula's well deserved reputation is that of a bad play caller. bad and uncreative decisions that take too long to get to the QB.

no one doubts he is a good guy. no one doubts his chemistry with cam. it's his proven record as a playcaller. it doesn't matter who you have on the field or how great the playbook is if the coaches making the decisions on the field can't be trusted to make good and/or quick decisions.

giving this team the benefit of the doubt is all we do because all they do is give us reason to doubt. at some point you start noticing that giving them the benefit of the doubt has only paid off four seasons out of 17 and regardless of the studs we have at QB & MLB, you doubt the coaches ability to pull the best out of the players. you doubt their ability to make good consistent decisions, esp. when it matters most.

promoting shula did nothing to make me feel better about this coaching staff's ability to make good game time decisions, in fact it made me have less confidence in them.

I'll cheer for them and hope this works, but i have faith only that this team will continue to do what it's evidenced itself to do...blow close leads (that i think will come less often now) and lose games until the end of the season after the team is eliminated from playoff contention.

am i wrong? i hope so and it sure wouldn't be the first time, but until they can prove they can win when it matters instead of just trying to save their coach's job at the end of the season, i will not believe. i won't be suckered into believing in them again until they give me proof it's worth it.

Are you getting tired of writing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over?

Which you have stated over and over and over and over and over and over...I usually like your posts, but all of you guys have become unbearable. I love this place, but if this is what its gonna be like until the season starts, its gonna be hard to come back here. And before you say ," good then leave." I like what this place was before the Shula hire. Just get over it, move on and start posting like you usually do.

Obviously Shula will be completely different this time, because apparently he didn't have a playbook in Tampa Bay? Or because he worked for a conservative coach, and Rivera's not?

Zod's right, it's about knowing what play to call and when, it's not about being able to install an offense. And whenever Shula has been tasked with the tactics instead of the strategy, he's failed.

This time will be different though, because Bill Belichick.

I am sure the fact he had to ask guys like Shaun King to execute the plays had nothing to do with things not working well.

You give the greatest OC in the NFL Clausen....and his O ain't running smoothly

I have been one of the drivers of the send Chud packing bus, so the fact he is gone has made me a happy camper.

However, the premise of the OP is just flat inane. Basically, you are saying that since Chud sucked, all we have to do is replace him and we'll be better. Don't you think the quality of the replacement matters at all? So we could take any of the posters here, give them Chud's old playbook, and we'll be good to go? Don't think so.

He never had to start King. He had Dilfer for his entire tenure.

His replacement came in and jumped the offense all the way up to 6th. With Shaun King.

No mention that he took a QB that had 4 TDs and 18 INTS as a rookie in 2005 and in two seasons Shula had him at 21 TDs and 11 INTs in 2007? He took a guy that was as bad or worse than Jimmy Clausen and made him respectable.

And he was replaced by Les Steckel in 2000 who was a failure in Minnesota . I wonder if the fans were like "NOOOOO he was a failure in Minnesota in 1986 where his offense finished near the bottom of the NFL... Derpa derpa!!1111!"

By the way Steckel failed in Minnesota, then 13 years later was hired by Tennessee as OC and was successful. Hmmmmm

As HC? Did Bama not have an OC or QB coach? Can we throw out Shula's work with Cam and assign credit for his development to Rivera?

Also, since it looks like the metric for successful coaching is failure + indeterminate amount of time, I really think we should keep Jeff Davidson's name in mind. He was horrible, but that was years ago and he's got to be getting good now.

His last year he Tampa went 7-3 with Dilfer and 4-1 with King.

There offense was technically ranked 21st that next season....O rankings are based on yards.

But like I said, it is about the Jimmy and Joes for a OC. Look at who his QBs and WRs were......they were bums. Give anyone bums and the O will suck. There is a reason they went out and got Keyshawn the year after.
