Wait, how did you living in Tampa give you access to all the other defensive coordinators around the country and their private game planning schemes for the Tampa offense?!?!?

There used to be these things called newspapers....they had articles.

Hoping he has learned a bit over the last 12-13 years

As has been said before, not many great guys want to come aboard a potentially sinking ship. Shula might be a stop gap and he will go with Rivera and McDermott if the season sucks, at the expense again of the fans.

So Shula grew up in an NFL household, played in the NFL for a year, then spent 8 years on NFL coaching staffs before landing his OC gig, where he was awful for four years. SInce then he's also been awful as a head coach in college.

But apparently he's learned something new and different and special from Chud that will make him into a great OC now that he's the official hire. Do I have that right?

That's the gist of it. failure + time = success.

Once Shula is snatched off our staff in a year or two for a HC gig, Jeff Davidson will have ripened into an A+ offensive mind in case we want to look at someone familiar.
