Shula promoted to OC

Why would anyone think he'd run the se offense he did in Tampa in the 90s.

That fricking ignorant.

Exactly. He had Trent Dilfer at QB for Christ sake.

May be a mistake...may be the right move...will wait to see what happens.

Or, I could just over react and lose my freakin mind now like many of you.

His play calling scares me. I hope his philosophy has changed. He was in his mid-thirties then, and now pushing 50. Maybe Gettlemen and RR addressed this in the interview and liked what they heard. I want to believe that. He was operating under a pretty smart head coach at the time, one who needed new scenery and a good QB to win a super bowl.

So for anyone interested:

Shula was with Tampa as OC from 1996 to 1999. While he was there, his offenses ranked:

1996 - 30th Pts/28th Yds

1997 - 23rd Pts/29th Yds

1998 - 18th Pts/22nd Yds

1999 - 27th Pts/28th Yds

Shula was fired in 1999. His replacement, the legendary Les Steckel came in under the same conservative HC to post:

2000 - 6th Pts/21st Yds. With Shaun King.

--

Shula went on to become the HC at Alabama for four years.

His team records at Bama:

2003 - 4-9

2004 - 6-6

2005 - 10-2, won the Cotton Bowl

2006 - 6-7

--

Shula was hired as the QB coach in Jacksonville in 2007, a position he kept until we came knocking in 2011. In 2013, he was promoted to OC so that a perennially losing team could have "continuity".

Seems like a solid hire.
