That's not reality, that's speculation.

The reality is that we've gone with an unproven guy instead of one of three dubious retreads, none of which have had a winning season as an OC in the last five years. So all four of them have that in common. What Shula has over them is an established relationship with our franchise QB and the confidence of the current staff. You may not like it, but you're not exactly making a great case for doing anything to the contrary.

We had an opportunity this offseason to scour NFL and NCAA coaching ranks to put together a staff that had experienced success. Guys that are winners. Guys who knew how to get the best out of each individual player.

Here we sit with Rivera at HC, Shula at OC and QBC, Proel at WR coach, and Rogers as STC. You have to admit that's not exactly an all star cast. We'll be alright on D, if for no other reason than we have a proven great DC as our HC, but on offense and ST's, that is not a group that inspires a lot of confidence or that has any kind of track record of success.

The only positive I can find is we added Skipper. Look for him to be our interim HC when we underperform again early next year.

very good way of putting it. it was the safe non risky thing to do. and we've seen all too often how that shakes out.

i can just see the excuses now when this offense looks pedestrian next year..."how is it rivera's fault? he can't call the plays for shula. it's not his fault shula was in over his head." or, just as likely, "it's not the coaches fault cam and the other players aren't putting up more than 20 points a game."

i don't expect him to be retarded. i just don't expect him to be good. based on the actual job he's done as a playcaller i see no reason to change that notion.

no one is doing a very good sales job for him. best two arguments for him is he and cam have a good working relationship and "you don't know he's going to suck like he did when he called plays before. he might have gotten better."

I guess you could say he was the QB coach of a guy that was supposed to be a 2-3 year project and developed him into becoming the best rookie QB in the history of the game and the best first two seasons in NFL history.

That would qualify a lot of QB coaches to get a chance at OC.

Alabama was a mess before he got there, and he went 10-2 the year before he was fired.
