Shula promoted to OC

Not my first choice, but I'm alright with Shula. I'm actually looking forward to see what he will bring to the offense.

I don't really get it. I suppose we could all get hyped for the unknown but he is exactly that...an unknown. We turned down a guy who wanted the job who has a body of work to show that he can successfully run an offense in the same system that we theoretically ran here (when we weren't running the read option poo).

The known quantities about Shula, to me, aren't exactly harbingers of great things.

I don't see the point in continuity when we have only 15 or something wins since when? Like the 2010 season? It's next to last over that time span beating the Browns only by 1 victory...

So we go with continuity while we have been in the NFL toilet the past 3-4 seasons...

Thanks Rivera and JR...you guys rock

they'll pass us by next season.

yay for stability.

are we even going to be using chud's playbook?

or are we going to be using shula's masterpiece from the 90's?

Also on the subject of continuity...how much could there really be? We ran two totally different offenses last year...plus the one we ran in 2011. It's not like we had a long history of running a WCO and wanted to bring in a Coryell guy.

I hope I'm wrong but to me this hire (and the promotion from within for the ST job) scream "we think we're doing it right already...we were just unlucky before". That is patently false.

Jeezus, I am away from the computer for a couple hours, and look what happens.

Congratulations Jerry. You now have probably the least experienced and least qualified (on paper) coaching staff in the league. Combine that with an undersized scouting department for the win.

This was a terrible, terrible move. And not just the Shula promotion. I'm not sure about the other hires either. Sure, Ricky was a great WR. That doesn't mean he'll be a good coach, especially given his lack of experience. As for ST, all I can do is shake my head.

And people wonder why some call Jerry cheap.

I honestly just don't understand how this franchise can be so complacent with losing. For those of you who are considering selling your PSL's, I'd say now is the time to do it. I don't know if this team thinks the "good" teams hire from within so that's how we should do it (newsflash: we aren't a good team, we're a laughingstock exactly because of moves like this. We're losers) but it's just pitiful.

Of course the Richard Rodgers promotion as well is just rubbing salt in the wound. We interview some very highly touted candidates who have had great success and then just elected to promote one of the orechestrators of last year's abortion despite all the money we spent on "aces."

This entire team is just a disgrace and it's hard to see this move by Rivera as anything other than him trying to convince ownership that "it wasn't me! it was everyone else who was bad!" in an effort to buy himself some time. If I were Gettleman I would be beating down Richardson's door to let me fire the man right now. Three in-house hires in a losing organization, promoting people who have no business being promoted, is just unacceptable and the fans should refuse to accept such a thing.

This entire organization is an embarrassment to the National Football League.
