PFW (Eric Holmes) also says DT position needs higher priority

The first paragraph pretty much makes the point (stick out like a sore thumb)

The last time the Panthers used a first- or second-round pick on a defensive tackle was in 2001 on Kris Jenkins. It’s no wonder that the team has been weak at the position since Jenkins left the team after the 2007 season.

And then there is speculation about Gettelman's modus operandi:

Don’t be surprised if new GM Dave Gettleman, who came from the Giants, makes the position more of a premium. The Giants have stockpiled defensive linemen with great success the past decade, knowing the importance of a good rush and the ability to stop the run game.

I am warming up to the idea. DT is not a sexy pick, but---like it or not---it's probably our single biggest need (though I know it's arguable). A beast of a DT would probably have a profound effect on our D-line.

I certainly wouldn't cry about it if we hit a home-run with the first pick.

Could not agree more. We NEED a defensive tackle. We could survive with Hangartner at RG for another year (Seriously, I don't want that) but with Kalil coming back and Amini/Bell likely taking a step forward - the immediate need is for a nose tackle. We got absolutely gashed by average running backs this season.

The Dog Days of Hurney are over in Panther Land. Hallelujah!

Gett has already alluded to his penchant for big men, and their importance to winning. I am pretty much convinced that big things are not too far ahead for our beloved franchise in regards to filling needs. We will have the personnel to compete with anyone. Our success will be based upon teaching, coaching and execution.

#1 WR has been neglected since we drafted Smitty in 2000; far longer than the DT position(and we got lucky with Smith). We need to address that first in this draft.

I wouldn't mind it, but I am hearing that the draft should be fairly deep at WR. Moreover, we could probably make do with what we have (though I would hate it) if we had to. A beast at DT would be a nightmare for opposing offenses because it would free up Hardy and/or CJ to do their thing, which would in turn take pressure off the secondary (if not allow our ball-hawks to get some errant throws). It is my thinking that a DT would have a more immediate impact, and therefore allow our team to be more successful in the short term. Of course, if a WR is more of a game-changer, impact player or BPA, then you can't argue with that. Gett seems like a practical-minded, smart guy, so I am sure he'd be able to weigh it all out and come up with something to achieve maximum impact.

I don't disagree. the edwards wall was solid last season but dwan shouldn't be considered much more than hollis thomas was in 2009(?) ron is getting up there too.

I'd love to see offensive and defensive lineman in the first two rounds, and given the giants philosophy i think that's a safe bet

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
