Shula interviewed for OC position

Totally agree, however, having a guy 3 years into an opportunity to be a QB coach with us, allows him to keep the same terminology and allow the most FLUID transition. If you have noticed, the Panthers don't do too much winning either, with or without Cam.

The comment was made without involving Shula's winning %. It was made for the fact that Cam's development in year 3 is critical and introducing a new system and terminology to a young man who can barely speak, to me, does not sound like a wise idea, especially when Rivera needs to win yesterday.

Can barely speak? Just because Cam likes to say things his own way doesn't mean he's too stupid to learn a new offense. He's done it four times in five years.

yeah you realize you're talking about a guy who's learned several different offenses in a short period of time and learned to run an NFL offense in like six weeks right.

so is this another "cam is too dumb to run a real offense" argument

4 times in 5 years, and 2 of those 5 years he's lead his teams to championships. Yes they were in college, but winning on any level is winning. Cam is a smart player and a dominant one on every level.

It's time to take his development to the next level now. Get an OC in there that will play a more balanced pro style offense where the whole team is involved. Instead of this bullshit college offense Chud's been running where Cam is supposed to be the entire offense.

Out of the known candidates we've interviewed Jackson is the best option. I don't believe in his third year with the team if he's ready for all of that, and there's no reason to hire Shurmur unless Pickles is starting next season.

Well it wouldn't be a sexy hire, that's for sure. But it does make sense. It's really hard to know how Mike Shula would do because we don't visibly see him a lot. All we fans have to go on is his past, and how Shula has progressed as a coach is hard to know. It's hard to develop a feel for someone you don't often see. He has helped develop Cam, and he knows the system well. Rivera must be pleased with him if he talked Gettlemen in to giving him an interview.

Huddlers, we're getting ready to hit boring season. It sucks. Off season for football is the slowest off season of any sport. I know most of us secretly want the Panthers to make a splash with this coordinator hire, because it represents the last bastion of excitement before the iron curtain goes up for a while. So despite this instinct.....we may seriously want to hire Shula. He might not be the best or the worst. But he probably represents our best chance for starting strong next year. Because it's probably what's best for our QB.

UGH. This worries me. I'm sure Shula is a fine coach and has good football acumen, but with Rivera being so defensive-mined, we really need a strong offensive force on offense, which is why I'd take Shurmur over Shula any day. Jackson is obviously the top pick, but please no, not Shula.

Yeah I know right it's not like he's been in a new system 4 out of the last 5 years of managed win 2 championships.

And 1 of those years being 6 weeks before NFL career started and then come out and throw for 420 yards. Yeah he could never get a new offense in a full offseason.

Genius.
