Manti Te'o lied about his Girlfriend dying

Here's my take on what happened.

Manti is gay and he wanted to cover it up for many reasons; the way in which he was raised, his religion, the school he attended (Notre Dame), and the fact that he was a (star) football player. I believe Manti asked Ronaiah to help him cover his sexuality. Whether or not Ronaiah is his partner or is even gay, I don't know. Why he would ask this specific person to help, I don't know. But I'm sure Manti had his reasons. They made Lennay as Manti's online girlfriend and people went with it. At some point along the lie, I believe Ronaiah began taking advantage of the situation; raising money for leukemia and apparently for another person's Stanford tuition. Eventually, the fake death occurred. At this point, Manti realizes things had gone too far but he loved the attention he was getting from media, so he kept quiet; which would be consistent with what teammates have said regarding Manti's actions during this fake tragedy.

As the hoax began to fall apart, Manti felt the pressure and attempted to come up with a plan to play victim.

That plan doesn't seem to be going well.

The thought crossed my mind that he may have been trying to cover his sexuality, but I don't think that's it.

There are plenty of college and pro athletes who are gay and probably just take the "don't ask, don't tell" approach. So, he could've went around any issues regarding sexuality without being an attention *****.

I don't know why he would've concocted this story or co-conspired in it with Tuiasosopo, but there are definitely some questions regarding their connection. Te'o said he met her through a cousin, who I assumed was Tuiasosopo. But, his uncle apparently says the family only knew of him through Manti.

Who knows the reason behind it, but I don't know... Creating a national feelgood story of a fake dead girlfriend in order to cover one's sexuality, knowing it could be blown and then people will dig for answers would seem counter-productive to the process.

Still, just a lot of questions... For Manti to not research the fake girlfriend, but for the family to ignore it as well and accept an internet gf as a future family member is just awkward. The problem is, I just don't see what they were trying to get out of it. Yet, Manti perpetuated it for some reason... I just don't know.

ESPN is now jumping on the bash wagon and reporting he has mentioned his fake dead girlfriend at least 3 times since Dec. 6th.

Yeah, I'm starting to think he's just an attention wh*re.

I kinda liked him as a prospect too. Oh well, at least it got Skip Bayless to stop talking about The Golden Calf of Bristol on Twitter

Assuming someone is homosexual is stupid. Proof or shut up. That's like me saying he is actually a pedophile and started the story to distract from that. Or me saying he's into bestiality and started the story to distract from that.

Please stop assuming everyone is homosexual.

First of all, homosexuality isn't like pedophilia or bestiality.

Second, finding a "beard" is classic behavior for a closeted homosexual. (Hell, I had a buddy in the Army pay a hooker $500 to say she fugged him to quell rumors.)

Third, everybody is in full speculation mode. Fugged up but completely normal.

& last but certainly not least, it is ironically one of the few things that could save his career right now.

really? Becaue I can name much more Christians and Catholics that do crazier poo than this. Religion has nothing to do with it except give the media something to add it for controversial means and prey on individuals like you whoe do no research or have no facts but just believe the regurgitated, commercilized, sterotypical view.

I'm not mormon, but I was raised mormon and there are differences even within the faith just like Christians, Jews, Buddhist and Catholics really any other realigion. Modern LDS members are very nice, good, honest poeple. THere are crazy traditionalists (like EVERY religion, who believe unaccepted things) but just because someone is Mormon doesn't mean they believe anything more 'crazy' or wacked out than anyone else. Yea Mormon history of lots of wives etc., is not appealing to the masses but it's not any more whacked out then some of the poo Christians believe either. Don't even get me started on Christian/Catholic history, if you want to talk about some truley crazy poo. It's just more widley accepted so they don't get crtisized or doubted.

Kinda hard to say who is 'crazy' in a world of myth and faith, isn't it?

(no offense to catholics or christians, just the more accepted religions in the U.S.)

You sound a bit angry
