First Impressions: Dave Gettleman

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Fun fact: a buddy on my softball team just text me and said he's gonna have to start rooting for the Panthers because Gettleman was his high school baseball and football coach. My buddy turns 50 in June so that was 33 years ago. Said he used to have a much thicker Boston accent. So Gettleman has already converted one more Panther fan. That's pretty cool I guess.

I lived how he made it a point to discuss why he took a step down from football last year. Said he was basically frustrate he never even got a sniff of a GM job. If you have been that successful in your career, and are frustrated enough in your lack of advancement that you take a yet off to reassess your professional life, you are HUNGRY.

He may be older, but he is every bit as eager to really make a mark as a young hot shot. Maybe even moreso. This man has accomplished more than most do in his career, and now wants to cement a legacy. JR and Danny gave him that opportunity when nobody else would.

If he fails as a GM, it will not be from lack of preparation, competence or hard work. He's gonna bust his ass to prove himself and I hope we'll all look back on today and say, best hire JR has ever made.

Like the fact that he thinks our size is an issue...I'd agree with him. I wouldn't be surprised if we cut Beason and try to get bigger along the front seven...the giants have a huge front seven. Obviously the OL needs to get bigger first.

I've been saying for years our lbs have been undersized

Luke fortunately has the frame to get bigger. Davis is alright for now at 240. As for the others, well let's just wait and see what he does

I love Bo

But flaunting that shitt at a press conference is JR being JR

You flaunt a new car.

You flaunt a Louis Vuitton bag.

You flaunt some new Jordan's.

You don't flaunt sweet tea from a fast food joint. You carry it with you everywhere because you genuinely LOVE that poo.

I get the feeling that his age was a plus--he has the same sense of desperation JR has.

He mentioned the components of winning football games, (in addition to your "big men" quote): QB, TD makers, Pass rush.

Gettlemen said that we have pieces. That is right. Marty hoped these pieces would win for you if you paid them enough. Thank Marty for our situation at DE, QB, C, LB and TE. Blame him for problems at RB (cap), CB, DT, RG, WR and S (bad drafting or neglect).

Marty paid top dollar to reward our free agents and went bottom fishing for others. Gettlemen seems to have an expertise in free agency. He mentioned the flat cap and one-year contracts-no long term committments for quick fixes (see Hurney, 2010-2012). He seems to understand the market. He does not want to overpay. Marty thought he had to overpay to keep players here.

Rosters are liquid. You check the waiver wire and take players from other teams' practice squads. If you are not building a program from the bottom up, you are not building a program.

----Yes, he said that. Great to hear from a fan of a team with little depth and the biggest IR in the league for several years running.

Just think back to how the Giants handled Osi Unmenyuria. He begged for a big deal and they told him to play or watch JPP.
