Panthers want 125 Million in taxpayer money.

Why do we the residents of Mecklenburg. County get to pay for it when our name is the Carolina Panthers?

I'm not saying I'm for it or against it..but if our name encompasses 2 entire states..why does one county get stuck paying for it?

One reason is because of location ... your county is the one that reaps the economic benefits of having fans come into your county/city and spend money, thus generating more revenue and taxes.

Some of you in this thread act like you have to put in $1 million yourself to pay for this. They are not asking for a lot. Somebody said it earlier and I agree. If it is that much of an issue for you, you must broke.

And if all you are going to do is bitch and moan like a baby, why continue to follow the team if it is clearly stressing you out that much? If you have that little faith in the owner to field a winning team, why continue to watch the games if you know we're going to lose?

And complaining about the tax thing but then offering to raise ticket prices was the worst idea ever.

Perhaps the Panthers should go around and collect money from all of the places since they benefited from them being here. Let me ask you...how much money do you think goes into restaurants on a home playoff game, what about hotels, what about other businesses?

If the majority of the people live here I would say a helluva lot less than you think. But lets tax them anyways.

I think the local economy benefits tremendously and they have yet to invest in the cash cow who is providing the milk they drink. Remember, we are talking about the stadium, not the Panthers. Just because the Panthers own the stadium does not mean they should pay for the improvements when local business thrives on college games and other events there. Heck, I imagine UNCC will start playing a game or two there. The local economy will continue to grow without investing in the one thing that is brining them the bucks.

PSL owners funded that stadium, not the local taxpayer. Asking the team or the NFL to pay for this is putting the bill back on the ticket buyers. However, the local economy benefits every time there is an event there. After nearly 2 decades of profiting from this building, isn't it time they invested? Again, this is a cash cow that provides milk for the entire area; refusing to feed it is like killing it for a few steaks.

This is not about greed, unless you look at the community that has not paid its share for all the business the stadium brings them. Go back in time and look at uptown Charlotte before the stadium. You think that there is a limited benefit? We are talking billions of dollars over the past 16 years.

When people eat downtown and have a good time, they return when there is no game. The Bobcats moved into the economy the Panthers created in downtown, closing a 23000 seat arena just 5 miles away to open an 18000 seat arena. Why? Now they are talking about a minor league baseball park. You think the county commissioners do not realize the economic benefit?

lol, have you seen the way schools mismanage money? Schools in Guilford County(Greensboro) were granted a 30 million dollar federal grant.....so they can buy Ipads for the students. I can't wait until all those Ipads are sold and damaged.

The money being asked from JR, relatively speaking, is not a lot. That is the point.

And people doubting if the lack of contribution to building a stadium matters in regards to whether the team stays or goes? Maybe not for Richardson as he is a Carolina native but if he passes, it would be guaranteed to go somewhere else if the city refuses to help the team out. And considering the amount the team has done on their own (they contributed the most to the stadium being built initially and didn't ask for a lot from the city nor have they over the years), the city should contribute some.
