I did not say that the Panthers needed a new owner. I only said ownership does indeed have a direct effect on the outcome. Some people seem to think it doesn't matter who is writing the checks.

I personally believe our current situation is a direct result from the owner of our team intentionally tanking the 2010 season. He purposefully sent us to the gutter for his own financial reasons while PSL holders had to pay the same amount regardless. That kind of action takes several years to recover from.

It looks like he is at least trying now, hiring a legit GM. Hopefully he can vindicate himself.

He tried to run a moneyball type scheme with cheap young talent and it failed. Most likely to secure his own wallet in the event of the impending strike. It begins and ends with leadership at the top. Zod is spot on with his assessment. JR paid dearly for his decisions in fan support, team legitimacy. Too bad quality players who were shown the door without so much as a thank you (John Kasay). Aside from some genius GM moves, It's going to take more than a couple of years to turn around the mediocrity brought about by selfish monetary business moves.

Robert Craft is an amazing owner for having Scott Pioli admittedly get lucky in finding Tom Brady.

However he did stick with Bellichick who had just 1 winning season in hist first 6 as a head coach. Maybe Richardson is looking to him as how to handle Rivera.

Is JR a bad owner? No. Is he a good owner? No. We're middle of the pack IMO, just like we always have been and will be till our fans force a change in culture. Mediocrity is accepted too easily by this fan base and everyone associated with it.

To those that think the team will move, well, I don't think so. This team makes money, how many sellouts have we had in a row? No one would move a profitable team to a new city, especially one in LA where teams have failed.

I always wonder how much our ownership really cares about winning. I know he talks a good game, but I wonder. Considering how many tickets are sold to businesses and OTHER teams' fans, I'm not sure Panther fans are really that important to him.

No you didn't. You just quoted someone talking about how the Pats never had any real success until they got a new owner. A good owner. I'll let each person connect his own dots. I wish you'd come out and say exactly what you mean like you did with this post instead of sudo innuendo which you can twist, slant or flat our deney.

I happen to agree with you on the 2010 season but see it very differently. Jerry put the NFL and the future of the Panthers orgnazation and business above winning that year. It's my opinion that he thought a new a CBA was the most important thing. To that end he refused to sign FA or even our own talent because that would be stupid if we ended up with no football with a lockout and because he was playing hardball with the players.

Now, I say he put that above winning but he wasn't trying to tank the season. I think he thought we'd do ok but everything was in limbo anyway that it wasn't a good idea to built for a futre that might not happen. I don't blame him for that. If I was running a business I'm make the same calculated judement and do the same thing.

Where he compounded the problem and made huge mistakes which I do blame him for was when the CBA was signed and he knew we'd have a season he did all the contracts he would have done had there been no CBA problems. I think he gave out bigger contracts then he needed to because he felt those players deserved it and because he'd held out paying them becuase of the stradegy to get a CBA in the owners favor.

This is what puts us in the position we are in now. We've got all these too big huge deals that were done at the same time. And to many players than should not have gotten contracts at all. I blame either JR or allowing or Hurney for deciding to pay so much money to the RB position. To giving Jon Beason that contract when they had to know he was having some injury issues. I think we had to overpay for CJ but I don't know if we had to overpay by the amount we did. I think we could have gotten him for 10 million cheaper but I wasn't there so it's all conjecture.

What fans accept or don't accept has no bearing on whether the team wins or not. Fans can pout and stomp and scream and boycott....but that doesn't make players better or any luckier in terms of injuries or make other strong team in a division or conference weaker.
