I Have Less Faith In Rivera After Today

Personally, I find the "worst roster" argument kind of silly. Good coaches come in and take horrible rosters like ours to the playoffs all the time.

And one thing that Rivera does do very well is develop talent. I don't see him lasting two more years here, based on the other parts of his job that he doesn't do well, but when he does move on the next guy is going to inherit a roster that's stacked.

You are partially right. I for 1 would be happily eating crow. I gave Rivera year 1 with no judgement, but year 2 there needed to be progression & there was regresssion.

You can defend him all you want, but it sets the team back at least 2 years by keeping the wrong guy...I think we kept the wrong guy this year.

IF next year we are in the playoffs, you will have been right...sadly, I doubt that will happen. We should be making play-off 'runs' vs. out of the running by game 8 of 16.

Regardless of who the coach is our roster is in chaos right now. We need that to be sorted out before we set expectations for next season. Hurney and JR are responsible for our current roster situation. I'd give Rivera no more than 10% credit for roster. Hurney did pass on Jacoby Jones, Trindon Holliday, Carlos Rodgers, Geoff Schwartz, and numerous other guys that contributed elsewhere. He also signed dead money Mare. Although Rivera could be blamed for that as well. Point is, if we don't have a very good roster it's asinine to expect playoffs.

That was the start of it but it was cemented after the KC game. I want him gone in the worst way. Good teams dont lose to the worst teams in the league. Esp Freaking KC.

jbland, i agree. The PROBLEM is that we are not a good team, therefor we lose against KC

Didn't Tolbert contact the Panthers as well....or his agent at least. Nane did not play well. Ajiritutu was ok on special teams. There was a few other Chargers that had no impact positive or negative. When I say the roster is in chaos I'm talking about cap figure. Not league minimum Charger scrubs. All of our major cap problems originate from Panther draft picks on second deals.

The first game? Or the game when we stomped their ass?

Rivera is not the best coach, but he is improving along with the team.

The Carolina team that beat Atlanta this year is what this team can be, or better. I noticed a huge improvement in the defense and in the confidence level of the team in the second half of the season. I know it was too late, but I have a feeling that we are going to start kicking ass as soon as we walk on the field next year.

Let's see if we make the playoffs in 2013, and then Rivera will have no excuses if we cant win a playoff game.

This is actually my biggest complaint about Rivera this past year & even his first year; there's starting to be a pattern. After the pressure is off (i.e. we're out of the playoffs), he looks like a good coach & the team plays better. I want to see him coach well when it matters & we have a shot.

The expectation was set high before the year (esp. by Kalil) & Rivera folded. Pressure came off after we were out of the running & we begin to look good. I don't like the emerging pattern.

You hit it on the head about being too late & maybe next year we do 'stat kicking' right away, I just like to see a reason for hope rather than a blind faith in Rivera who has not shown us no 'proof' (yes, I know what faith is) to what many believe he will do next year.

I really want to be wrong & have no problem eating my words if we go to the playoffs.

Do you seriously think we're the only team in the league with cap problems?

And those teams will be handcuffed just like us.

Tampa and ATL have money to spend in the NFC south.

Tampa has 10s of millions and could go big in free agency. Depending on what they do in the offseason they could have $40M to spend.

ATL has a few million which gives them the freedom to resign/keep who they want and maybe make one move.

That is bad for us since we have to get rid of $16M and are in need of a free agent or two. Could be a tough NFC south in 2013 for us

I agree with you. ATL is a strong team already, TB has a ridiculous amount of cap space & we are a bad team & in a horrible cap position.
