Gantt's Rant

kept his job because stability was important.

half the staff leaves including the OC.

#winning.

Stability is important. But the HC is the stabilizing factor. Changing OCs is not he end of the world. It is only a mess if we fail this year. I, and many, don't see us failing. If so, the HC and new OC will be together for a while.

I like how you make it sound like half his staff abandoned him. Chud and Turner are the only two that left of their own free will. Talk about spin.

I know your heart was broken this year. But, please, come back off the ledge.

I guess what people are mainly trying to get at is that we are keeping Rivera because of the stability . We aren't showing any stability right now because half of the offensive staff is gone. It seems that we would have been better letting Rivera go because now he is a pretty much a lame duck coach with a new GM.

This could have happened last year, and it could have happened next year, etc.

And I moderately disagree that we kept Rivera just to keep continuity on offense. He also went 6-2 the second half of the season with convincing wins over Atlanta and New Orleans, the defense saw huge improvement, and the team never quit on him.

He took a team that was 2-14, basically added a QB and some small parts, and has gotten them to 7-9.

I don't want to get into the business of fully defending Ron Rivera because I am skeptical that much will get better.

But we didn't keep Rivera just to keep Chud. If that was what we were worried about we just would have fired Rivera and promoted Chud to HC.

Plus this could end up being a positive. We just have to wait and see..

No one can convince me that Gantt doesn't get some type of perverse pleasure at pointing to what he perceives as anarchy within the Panthers' organization. I do think he is taking some of this stuff (firings and FO decisions) personally, and I get the felling that he relishes the thought of saying "I told you so" when his predictions and pontifications ring true. There is just something not quite right about Gantt.

He's right.

Some of you guys think everything we do will lead to a ring. Wake up. This team is a complete mess right now. There's no way around it.

Salary cap hell. And that's to put it lightly. It's a problem that will effect/set us back for the next 2-3 seasons. Because of this issue, we are going to be decreasing the talent on a team that was already pretty thin in that department. On top of both of those things, we have a lame duck coach who is already feeling pressure from the new GM and just lost his OC (and possibly more staff that will be going with him). So now RR has to go find a new offensive staff to coach a team that is only going to get worse this offseason (because of the cap). And Rivera will still be expected to make the playoffs but he won't, leading to him being fired and we, once again, have another set back.

But yeah, Gantt is just grumpy. He has no real reason to be frustrated with a crappy this franchise is right now.

I love how every year we're in "salary cap hell", then we make a few moves and have plenty of cap room and everyone's like "oh I knew we'd be ok"

This year is definitely different than others. We are $16 million over the cap.

We will make a few moves and "be ok" cap wise. But those moves will include some fan favorites.

meh...you spun what i said. most the staff that left is gone because he fired several and then he's had one and maybe two walk out to greener pastures.

he is having a significant turnover in the staff. that's not stability.

I like Gantt quite a bit but he has been particularly uh.. strident? bitchy? regarding the Panthers lately.

I think switching OCs in a year where Rivera has to win will keep us simple and move us a little bit back to basics on the offense. After watching Chud's fugmuppetry for two years I can handle a season of simple/basic.

I said during the bux game on opening weekend that we were so wrong that it would have to get worse, way worse before it got better. I said it would be a hard off season to both predict and to accept. Even though we improved on the field(something I did not think we could do) the hard stuff that will truly test us all in one way or another is coming to fruition.
