All signs point to Shula...

One, Shula never had a Cam motherf*cking Newton as his QB in Tampa Bay. Two, we could definitely stand to be a little more conservative in offensive philosophy with the running back talent on this team. Cam's natural aggressiveness will keep the big plays coming.

just like it did for 10 weeks this past season, right?

sorry, but what we learned this year was that you can't just put any OC there and cam will be great.

it may sound dumb but at this point i think cam's development should be the top priority

continuity is good for that kind of thing

won't do him much good if he's just going to end up with another coaching staff next year.

at this point i honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him bolt when his contract is up. this team is screwed up. i think we found our savior GM too late.

Not dumb at all. Developing and then extending Cam should be #1. He is more valuable to this team than any coach or coordinator at this point.

Since we never ran the ball, those big play chances never had the time to develop. That's the whole point of going with a more conservative mentality, it opens up the play action. We weren't screaming at Chud because he was running Foxball, now were we?

I swear if we destroy this team's potential because we refuse to let go of the past I'll be so pissed.

"grr! Hate that confounded highfalutin passing game!! Gimme real football with a losing record any day!"

we have two very high octane offenses in our division but we want to go conservative.

makes no sense whatsoever.

Many posters wanted to see Rivera and co. canned this offseason. Now that Rivera is safe, Chud is leaving for a promotion, and four other coaches have been let go (Murphy during the season), I'm seeing the same posters pouting. It just goes to show that some folks actually enjoy being Debbie Downers, which is a damn shame. This team has had enough disappointment and bad breaks, it doesn't need the folks that are supposed to be supportive of the squad looking for the opportunity to eat some piss-milk cheerios

The same posters are pouting... because Rivera is still here. It wasn't "keep Rivera but get rid of everyone else". I have no idea what argument you are trying to make.

There was no good argument for keeping Rivera. None. However the "least crappy" argument was the idea of continuity. Fine, whatever... but now we don't even have that. But we still have Rivera. Yuck.

There is very little chance we make the playoffs next season. We have a tough schedule, a roster filled with holes, and an already weak coaching staff in turmoil. Rivera will be fired, an entirely new staff will be brought in once again, and we will have basically wasted the first 3 years of Cams career with nothing to show for it.

Really all I hope for now is that Gettleman is allowed to build for 2014 and beyond, and not be forced to make bad "short term fix" type moves to bring in "Rivera guys".

i was screaming at him because he was running a predictable offense that telegraphed what it was going to do.

not being conservative had nothing to do with it.

being conservative in your offense will keep you behind the falcons and the saints.

but hey, at least we won't be running any of that college stuff, amiright? screw the fact that IT'S WORKING.

Rivera is very adamant that he prefers the Coryell offense, which no matter how you look at it is not a conservative offense. So, if he brings up Shula it will be under the Coryell or if he brings someone else on board it will be the Coryell. He also likes the wrinkle of the read option so that will likely remain. Outside of all that, the offense will still be a vertical, attacking system. If we run the ball more in it, I wouldn't complain at all, we see more success when we utilize our running backs.

yay. we get a downgrade from a questionable OC.

awesome sauce is overflowing.

Chud wasn't all that IMO, and I could argue that anybody but Chud (ABC) is destined to be an upgrade. Not saying that I totally believe the spin in regards to Chud's mad scientist approach to Cam and our offense, but, in retrospect, you have to wonder how he fuged up the first half of the season (more or less). To have our talent at RB, and then have fans and media actually question our talent at RB is, in many ways, unforgivable...or, at the very least, eyebrow-raising. I'll give him some slack due to Cam's sophomore slump, but (in a way) he fuged up Cam Newton also. How can a guy fug up Cam Frickin Newton to that degree?

And before, some, Einstein points out the fact that Shula was the QB coach, let me say that IMO Cam's biggest problems during the first half of the season ultimately stemmed from play calling.
