Possible Panthers Offseason

Currently- 16 million over

Cut:

Ron Edwards- Although he is good when healthy, but he is rarely ever healthy. For someone so commonly injured he is going to cost to way to much next year and we can save approximately 2.5 million by cutting him.

Haruki Nakamura- Although we thought we could get a solid free safety in Nakamura, we didnt. we got a big time dud. by cutting Nakamura we could save up to 1.8 million.

Chris Gamble- One of our best corners but we were okay the last 6 games without him so with another year in the system maybe they could be better and we could be okay without Gamble. A major plus for cutting him is we would save 7.9 million.

Instant Savings- 12.2 million

Restructure:

Jon Beason- If we keep Beason we would have one of the most dominating LB corps in the NFL by a long shot, but if Beason didnt want to restructure then someone like the Ravens may be looking for a vet MLB to replace Lewis. Personally I think that he will agree to restructure but that is just something to think about.

Jordan Gross- Very few teams would be interested in gross and although we could save 6.7 million dollars by cutting him, we don't really have a viable replacement yet and i'm not to fond of drafting a LT and an OG. That would be a little too much youth on the line in my personal opinion

Charles Godfrey- We would save no money by cutting him and honestly he would be the hardest to convince to restructure since he had a significantly better year this year than last, but he still is not worth as much money as he is getting. Hopefully the new GM no matter who he might be he could convince him that he needs to or he will be gone.

Savings total: Barely enough to sign our own free agents and draft picks.

All of these guys will get as little as possible because we dont have much money and Dwan is the only especially valuable one and i hope that we find a way to keep the other two as well.

I hope that with all of our cap problems that we can trade down and try to get as many picks as possible.

St. Louis needs offensive lineman and we may be in prime position to grab a tackle or a guard like Chance Warmack

According to the trade value charts our pick is worth 1100 points and St Louis' 22nd pick is worth 780 points and their 46th pick is worth 420. I feel like if we trade down we could get a 2nd rounder for it.

Draft:

1ST Round: Jesse Williams DT Alabama- This guy has been dominant at the highest level. He is huge and he bench presses 600 lbs. Our biggest need is DT and he is probably the best player to fill our needs. If we can get Dwan resigned then we could have one of the nastiest defensive lines in the NFL next year.

2ND Round: Eric Reid FS LSU- A huge position of need and a guy that can come in almost instantly and start for our team. Drafting Reid would give us the ability to cut Nakamura and not resign Martin. We could feel comfortable with the rotation of Reid, Campbell, Jones and Godfrey.

2ND Round: Logan Ryan CB Rutgers- A big physical corner that can not only cover but tackle as well. Logan is a great corner with good measurables. He would be a good addition to our young defensive backfield. Plus he wouldnt have to play major minutes because we have a good rotation at this point.

4TH Round: Hugh Thornton OG Illinois- A guy who can come in and immediately compete for the RG spot. I know a lot of you think that we should go offensive line early second round but i personally feel that our offensive line situation isn't as bad as you think, there was just a lack of continuity on the line once Kalil got hurt.

5TH Round:Josh Boyd DT Mississippi State- This is a guy who has been in the shadow of Cox and when he had a chance to break out, he couldn't do it. Long story short we need help at UT on the line and this guy could be a nice project that could pan out considering he has been SEC battle tested.

6TH Round: Marquis Wilson WR Washington State- A guy that was once considered a second round pick is projected to fall dramatically. He could really help our team in the red zone with his size and catching ability and for all those worried about the WR corps next year needs to remember that we are getting David Gettis at full strength next year. So with Wilson, Gettis, and Lafell healthy next year we could have a darn good receiving corps.

For the draft, I love Jesse and Reid. I rather have Jordan Poyer than Logan Ryan.

I might switch Reid for an OL (Dallas/Fluker/Barrett) also, or I'd be willing to stay with Reid if we could grab Alvin Bailey or Omoregie Uzzi in the 4th.

And St. Louis could very well be a team we could work with bc they have like three picks and the first 2rds. If not the Colts is another team they may want to move up bc they have two 2nd rounders.

yeah i wasnt sure if i liked poyer or not because i havent really seen him play and i could have gone fluker in the 2nd and motta in the 4th. But for some reason i just really like Reid.

Overall it's great.. I'd feel uneasy waiting until the fourth round to draft an O-Linemen though.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see DJ Campbell beat out Reid for the job... I think that kid has potential

i agree looking at it i might prefer to take DJ Fluker in the second and take Zeke Motta in the 4th. And youre right i think campbell could end up being a steal for a 7th rounder.

Zeke Motta in the fourth wouldn't be bad... That kid is a beast at special teams

Gettleman come from a place named NY Blue where they love to build their team through the DL. I don't see why we're not going to bring our best DT back.

I could almost see a DT as our no.1 pick in April. Gettleman was taught that you win championship by getting after the QB. We're good at DEs but bad inside.

A Dline of CJ-Dwan-Jesse-Hardy would make me creamed.

I think OL is a much more pressing need. Esp with the aging Gross and his contract.

Kearse came in and played more than serviceable. Not sure what the staff was thinking when they cut him.

OL is definitely pressing but I felt the BPA for our needs was Williams and a guard in the second would probably be better than Reid and Motta in the 4th

The only thing I can see a problem with, is a Beason restructure. While Beason's deal is awful, a restructure is tricky. When you restructure, the signing bonus accelerates, creating a huge instant cap hit. So restructuring Beason actually wouldn't save us any cap space, which is one of the main problems with the cap situation here. We maybe could break even on a restructure, but more than likely you're creating a cap hit....
