A source close to the 76ers has confirmed that Sixers head coach Maurice Cheeks has been fired and the interim coach will be Tony DiLeo, who is currently the Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager.

DiLeo will coach tonight's home game against the Washington Wizards and, a source close to the Sixers confirmed that DiLeo will coach the team through the end of the season.

The official word coming from the Sixers at this point in "no comment."

The Sixers have struggled through the first quarter of the season, starting a surprising 9-14.

During the off season, the Sixers extended Cheeks contract through the 2009-2010 season. But, because of the significant rise in expectations after the off-season addition of All-Star power forward Elton Brand, the leash on Cheeks was short.

Cheeks was in his fourth season as Sixers head coach. He had an overall record of 122-147.

      At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
