Why Feldman9000 Thinks Beane will be the GM

No GM is going to want to inherit a coach for one year. Richardson will just save money and keep Beane unless someone just blows him away in an interview, or comes as cheap as Beane. Honestly, it makes no sense to bring in a GM now, and if for some reason it works out, JR strikes a gold mine. Im sure you're saying WELL WHY'D HE HIRE SOMEONE TO HELP FIND ANOTHER ONE? The answer is simple, we we're horrible, then things changed. Trust me, JR is keeping his ears and eyes open, but he's going to have stipulations and basically be picky with this that it would be easier and CHEAPER to just keep Beane for one year, and if it doesn't work, start out fresh. I'm sure this will crumble once the news comes official.

Now that I'm past my emo rage over Rivera and looking at the candidate list and their qualifications, I just don't see how Beane would get the job.

Now, setting Beane up to intern/groom/learn under the new hire? I can buy that. The next GM? Nah. Not much of a chance.

Also, as others have been pointing out for a couple of days, there's a big difference between "I'd like you to give Rivera one year to turn things around" and "Rivera is our coach moving forward".

I don't like that JR made the decision for the new GM, but it's a one year trial and you haven't heard of prospects turning us down or declining interviews over it.

We'll be fine.

Good edit, Del.

I could see the actual decision maybe coming around the end of the week. Tuesday is the earliest anything could possibly happen because the team has to satisfy the Rooney Rule before making an announcement, and Tuesday is when Ross interviews.

It's actually an excellent time to hire a new GM.

Sure a GM may want his own coaching staff, but with the draft and free agency next on the agenda, he'll have enough on his plate to start off with. Our salary cap is also a mess so a new GM will have to sort all of this in quick order, all while putting his own staff in place. This will also give the new GM some time to scout a better HC, since the decision won't have to be made in the next 3 weeks.

I don't like wasting a full season on the transition, but I respect the man calling the shot..

If we were in good shape cap wise and had little to do in the way of roster decisions, then maybe it would be tempting to let Beane run it for a year and put off the long term decision until it was clearer whether Rivera was going to make it. If Ron were to have another poor year, then you blow up the whole staff and start over.

But that's not our situation at all. This is a critical year for roster decisions due to cap problems. Putting an inexperienced guy in charge now would be very, very foolish.
