How exactly do people get fat?

Just follow the fat guy diet, it was extremely effective for me.

Breakfast- It must be a biscuit from any drive thru, and it must have a meat and cheese. Wash it down with a Large soda

Lunch- It must be anything from a drive thru with meat and cheese. Wash it down with a Large soda

Dinner- It must be 2 anythings from a drive thru with meat and double cheese. Wash it down with a Large soda

Snack- At LEAST half of the container of whatever you're having. (ice cream, cookies, cake, candy)

You can thank me in 40 lbs.

Oh also add at least 6 cans of soda too, make it a 12 pack if you really want progress.

Seriously though, don't fight it Jase. I tried to gain for years and did all the fad stuff, never worked. One day my metabolism died though and I'd give anything to be skinny again.

1) Get a desk job and only get up to take a bathroom break.

2) Get your girl/wife/friend pregnant. Eat whatever she eats and double it.

3) Be too tired to work out from watching your sleepless baby and from your desk job sitting on your arse all day and watch the pounds come on.

I have done all of these things twice in the last 2.5 years, lol.

When I was trying to gain weight during high school for football (I played inside backer; freshman year I was 150 lbs, graduated at 220 while running a 4.6 forty) I literally ate what I wanted to eat. Kept away from soda for the most part. I love Sundrop, so I had one or two a week. Had a glass of tea with dinner. Other than that, water and milk. Ate like a horse. Sloppy joe nights were the best. 4 sloppy joes with a handful or two of baked fries. My metabolism was ridiculous. Never had a belly, since I lifted 5 days a week and it was pretty hardcore, really. I couldn't do that poo now, I'd be a whale.

My advice is basically get as much protein and carbs as possible, and lift for strength. The bulk will come as long as you do that and get about 4,000-5,000 calories a day (senior year I was eating 6,000 a day). LOTS of spaghetti, LOTS of chicken, LOTS of lean cuts of beef.

EDIT: An example of my typical day senior year as far as eating goes was this:

Breakfast:

2 bowls of whatever cereal we had

Banana

Protein shake

Lunch:

2 PB&J sandwiches on Nature's Own Double Wheat and Fiber bread

1 cup of pudding

1 Nutty Bar (Little Debbie snacks are the poo)

Cell Mass mixed in a powerade (I had lunch after my weight lifting class)

Snack when I got home was usually a sandwich of some sort, a banana, and maybe a small bowl of ice cream or something sugary.

Dinner:

Whatever we had...I made sure to eat a lot of it.

And, if I was feeling froggy, one more sandwich about an hour before bed.

I've started counting my calories for the first time in my life, to try to gain weight.

In my efforts to try a weightlifting "bulking" phase and put on a pound per week, livestrong recommended that I eat over 3400 calories per day above any calories that I burn exercising.

I find this almost impossible. My normal eating habits only take me to about 1700 per day.

Help me, fatties... you're my only hope.

What you need is testosterone. Go out and beat up some 6th graders (make sure you don't lose, that will cause you to have even more estrogen), you'll get a test boost from showing them that you're the alpha male. Then go to the gym. You will be diesel by summer.
