I thought from the book that his mom was black and it was the family that took him in who was white. Guess not, or they are taking a bit of artistic license.

He was in HS when they took him in, they didn't raise him. Neither did his birth mother.

Tim McGraw is playing his coach. I can just see it now. The entire movie he is going to be wearing a shirt that is way to tight and unbuttoned half way down, he will run down the sidelines in a cowboy hat and boots. They had his mom on Sirius a few weeks ago talking about the movie. All of the SEC coaches in the movie are playing themselves. They even got Nick Saban to wear his LSU gear again for this movie.
