Was in Panama on transits through the canal in my navy days- Panama City had some great sailor bars 30 years ago I remember one place had dirt floors, lol. They import beautiful costa rican women there. dont think thats what youre looking for. Make sure you try my 3 favorite Panamanian beers- Atlas, Balboa, and Panama

Another good one if you make it to South America is "Polar"

I also have to say it was without a doubt the hottest, steamiest place Ive ever been - how they dug that canal with the technology of the day is a testament to perseverance.

yeah it's pretty gross along the pacific coast right now. we're up in the mountains for the moment so it's a little more tolerable... headed towards Costa Rica today, we may swing over the border for a day and do some sport fishing if it's not outrageously expensive

heading east to west through the big ditch on my destroyer, we were doing a very rare fresh water wash down of the ship. I believe it is Lake Gatun on the western end of the canal that is fresh water - my 25 year old tin can had not seen fresh water in its lifetime and we opened up the seacocks and pumped freshwater all over the ship including the firefighting spigots which sprayed over the outdoor decks - all the topside deck apes were running around scrubbbing bulkheads and topside areas- gunmounts etc - over the 1 MC the Captain agreed to play " PANAMA" by Van Halen. A memory I will never forget as the song was current and popular at the time. Same trip I went aboard USS Iowa a few times ( who we were escorting and doing aac fire suport for ) to borrow some items - it was a short time prior to their gun mount exlosion which killed 47 sailors.

got to see Iowa fire broadsides several times on that cruise - was quite an experience - incredibly loud and the sort of thing the word " awesome" was originally intended to describe

this is a gneric web photo but I have some I took with my old 35 mm canon ae1 still on paper, that matched this one.
