Florio says we're "leaning" towards Dave Gettleman

If Ross insists on picking his own coach, he's severely limiting his options. The only teams meeting that criteria are Arizona, San Diego, and (possibly) Jacksonville if they'll fire Malarky.

If he comes here and Rivera has one more year, that's win/win for him. If Rivera loses, then he's fired and Ross gets to hire his own staff. But if Rivera wins, Ross gets some credit for fixing things.

i used to have this teacher that was pretty old who would try and pretend he was reading a book but still keep an eye on everyone one and without fail one of two things would happen...he'd get interested in what he was pretending to read and not look up again or he'd fall asleep and drool all over himself.

moral is, sometimes it may look like someone is holding the cards close to his vest but he really might be asleep or in lala land.

We all go idiot mode here at one point or another, that's what keeps this place interesting.

As for those speaking on general managers or head coaches without a clue as to what they are talking about, I don't think that is only exclusive to the huddle. Most of the sports reporters out here throwing poo at at the wall every chance they get are glorified huddlers with merely a fancy title. Just look at Joe Person, I mean really.

I dont mind Gettleman either, I just liked Ross more for his ability to find talent. Which is what we are gonna need for the next couple of years. We have to do better in drafts and its are philosophy to build that way anyway.

I still say Beane is the leader in the clubhouse - but if JR has decided to keep Rivera, a deciding factor could be which candidate is willing to accept and move forward with Rivera as HC.

I read that Accorsi recommended Gettleman before to the Browns but they went with another guy instead. They fired that guy a couple days ago.

The thing that bothers me about Gettleman is this is a young mans game. Teams that win need a GM/FO that works around the clock, sleeps in the office, understands how to work a smartphone, etc. Not some man who drinks ensure and goes to bed at 6pm.

I think Ross' draft history is overstated.

Then again Gettleman scouted and approved David Carr so they both have their flaws.

Don't know much about either candidate, but they both seem like great choices. Just as long as it's not Beane, I'm good.
