Clayton says "thoughts inside the building are Rivera is safe"

Clayton may be right, but he's generally not a great source for Panthers info.

Neither is Mort really. Previously his "sources" have said that we'd go after Osi Umeniyora (we didn't) and said that the Panthers would cut Delhomme and draft a QB in round one, in 2006 .

If we were going to fire Rivera then I certainly hope we would have done it by now...

On the other hand JR may be feeling out how the GM candidates respond to the idea of inheriting Rivera before he makes a decision?

If Marc Ross is balking at the idea of inheriting Rivera, then Rivera may be in trouble.

Take it for what it's worth - because all the media guys are guessing as much as anything else - but Gantt believes the delay is Richardson does not want the decision on what to do with Rivera to be an emotional one. His thought is the delay does not make Rivera any safer and that Rivera has a lot of selling to do to keep his job during this meeting.

Just to provide an alternate point of view from someone who's guessing like we are.

The only guy who actually suggested that Ross definitely wants his own coach is a Giants blogger, so I don't know how much stock I put into that notion.

From my understanding people are saying Ross wants to build up his own coaching staff. So Gettleman might be the leading candidate for the Panthers if they want to keep Rivera.
