Greg Ellis is Interested in Playing for Carolina

We will only carry 4 DE's on the roster.

If Pep plays they will be Pep, Johnson, Brown, and Brayton.

If Pep does not play, I could see bringing him in.

We most likely are going to cut Taylor....just do not see him beating out any of the above 4.

If Pep does not play, I am not really comfortable with only Brayton, Johnson, Taylor, and Brown on the roster.

on the 53 man roster we'll carry 9-10 on the DL next year. a couple of those will be considered DE/DT hybrids and brayton will be one of those. considering how worn down they got last year, they are going to want as much depth as possible.

i'm thinking the DL is going to look something like this:

LDE: brayton, johnson

LDT: kemo, oshinowo/harvey

RDT: lewis, irvin, hayden

RDE: peppers, brown, taylor

oshinowo could be switched out with harvey and they would not be active on the game day roster much at all barring injury to kemo. (crossing fingers)

brayton and johnson could slide inside DT if needed. taylor's speed/motor is going to be far too valuable to pass up in meeks scheme. taylor will only be rotated in but i can see them rotating DEs in quite frequently to beat up on Olines.

Just don't see him coming here. Peppers will be here, and Everette will be vying for playing time in the rotation with Brayton. We need to continue to develope the guys we have, or what is the point?

I thought I wouldn't mind having him in place of Brayton, but I don't see the Panthers doing that. I could always be wrong.

That's my opinion.

And with no source quoted on the "Panthers may be interested in him," sounds to me like he's just fishing.

big mixed feelings about this one. love the experience factor he would bring. i don't see him as being a long term solution and i think i would rather see us develop our other DEs...get the future bookends, johnson and brown as much PT as possible.

as far as moving him to DT...maybe on passing downs. i don't know. he's same height but about 20 pounds lighter than brayton. not sure about that going against the interior and not sure he would like that anymore than being an OLB. still, he would be solid for a year, maybe 2...and something that we would need if peppers isn't here which he most likely will be. peppers could stand to have someone here he looks up to, though.

So were you saying no for a trade or no You didn't want him at all in an older thread? The old thread started out about trading for him but it turned out to be a thread of him being too old and we didn't need him.

I could see us carrying 9 DL.....given that we have to carry two kickers. I still think Taylor is firmly in the crosshairs.

I still don't see the Panthers going after Ellis unless something happens with Peppers. As long as Peppers plays, there are other positions where we need some veteran depth more than at DE...especially when you consider that Peppers rarely ever misses any playing time.

I will never say never though. Somebody could always get injured in OTA's, which would change things.

i dont think we will take that many DT..i think we will carry 1 backup run stuffing DT like kemo 2 pass rushing DT,and one is already irvin

wouldn't trade for him....esp a trade involving peppers. he becomes more attractive as a free agent, esp. on the cheap. not sure long term that it would help us that much, though.

after the way we got weak last year....i'd find it hard to not have that many DTs. we should have at least 5 DTs on the 53 man roster. we should have no less than 4 on game day but we could get by with 3 if we use johnson and brayton rotated in.

i just think because of last year we will carry better DT backups not more DT...when kemo went down we did not have that run stuffing DT,this year we will have a backup run stuffer, when lewis went out we did not have a good rushing DT,we will have one in irvin, last year we did not have this..
