We should at least take a hard look at Chip Kelly

i don't actually think that JR would hire kelly. he's big into the "NFL club" mindset which is why there isn't more college coaches in the NFL than there is right now. that's why people have been reluctant to adapt to spread offenses in general. they have been too caught up into the "NFL way" and the notion that if it's not done in the NFL it's not worth doing. meanwhile teams that break away from that mindset have been winning championships.

Or maybe you think that before you pay someone 5 to 7 million dollars to do something, you would like to know he has some experience at the NFL level as a player or coach. Or even played college ball.

If you want to try someone out doing what has never been done before you hire them as a low salary if you want to give them a spin not paying them as one of the highest paid guys who is totally unproven.

Well how many former NFL players have failed as coaches? How many coaches with tons of NFL experience failed once getting a HC job?

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The last two years under Ron has been the same story same script by the same director and I'm tired of watching it.

Don't know the guy's name, and don't feel like looking it up at the moment... But I'll float this out there...

What if* we don't go after Chip Kelly at all, and instead we go after his OC to replace Chud?

Just spit balling and haven't seem this possibility mentioned yet.

sorry for the inaccurate statement earlier I was talking out of my ass cause I guess I was about 6 when we hired Fox so I didn't really know lol. I just know Rivera isn't getting paid much at all. The first year I got into the Panthers was 2003 when I was like 7-8 lol

This has officially spun out of control

it all depends on how much i buy into what he's trying to do and if i think the ceiling is high enough. and i'd also understand that it is a risk so i'd try and make sure he had, just as i would any NFL coach, the players that he felt he needed, the support he needed, the rope he needed, and time to get the job done, but i'd be requiring progress each year and i'd hold him to the same standard i'm holding rivera to...win.

if not the first year then absolutely the second year, and i'd make sure that the contract is heavily incentive based. you get this team to the playoffs early and i'll pay you top dollar. you get to the superbowl and i'll make you a king. you don't do jack within two years and we will be looking elsewhere.

his OC doesn't do much. kelly runs the program, runs the offense, and calls the plays. it's his decision making that i want. it's his team management and game management.

I figured as much... But if we lost out maybe their OC can be a po' man's Kelly?

I know I know... I've lost it. Just bored while movers are finishing up packing my house

One thing I like about Chip is his attention to detail. If you watched the bowl game last night on Oregon's final drive (Maybe not final, but close to it) they were essentially just running the ball and chewing clock as they were up like 4 scores, Chip instructed his offense to do something I've never seen before.

After the play was in and the offense got set, he would have the offense get out of their stances and look to the sidelines like they didn't know what the call was - sometimes they did this multiple times before one snap. It looked stupid as hell, but it did something not even the announcers accounted for. It constantly made the Dline and LBs get in and out of their stance. It requires a lot more effort to get in and out of a Dlineman stance than an Olineman. Essentially he was forcing the Dline to do full body squats before every snap just to wear them down.

I think that it was successful in a way. A "huge success" may be a stretch.

Yes, I do have lingering questions about Cam and Rivera, but I believe that Cam has the tools necessary to be a successful franchise-level QB, and I also believe that Rivera has what it takes to be a successful HC. My main question about Cam is whether he will commit to honing mechanics, and putting in the work in the film room watching opposing defenses, and watching himself to see how he can rise above whatever they throw at him with consistency. My main question about Rivera is, obviously, whether this season has taught him to consistently lead as if the buck stops with him on every play and down. My biggest question is Chud, actually. Does he really know what he is doing? As such, will Ron reel his ass in when he gets too cute for his own good (which speaks to my main question about Ron)?

i think Chud usually has a few questionable moments and games a year but by in large him and cam have done a good enough job to get the job done.

The question about cam was never his ability to play, he answered that the moment he touched the ball in the NFL. The question is could he adapt and that is not to be under estimated, Vick/Young and other spread QBs have not done that and taken the next step to this point and cam has.

Panthers single biggest issue this season like last was our defensive backfield that can be directly tied to most of our losses.
