We should at least take a hard look at Chip Kelly

Exactly why you can't fault people for being angry with the team for sleepwalking their way through this process. We should have had the pick of the litter if we wanted if. Instead Richardaon sat around and waited hoping it would make sure he didn't have to make the tough decision.

On the GM search, we're not really moving that much slower than anyone else.

On the coaching search, it's not technically sleepwalking if you were never really planning to get into it to begin with.

Based on what Szoke said in the other thread, I'm beginning to believe that's the case.

I will say it is rather frustrating that JR fired Hurney months ago and wasn't ready to start interviewing GM candidates in Monday. Makes me think he never planned on firing RR but wanted the new GM to "think" they had a say so in keeping RR, but they really didn't.

A lot of times the first team to interview gets the guy...ask Arizona about this.

I don't understand this take your time approach. JR has had months to vet the candidates and I just don't understand the logic.

Can't interview active staff on other teams until their season is over. For the G-men and the Titans, that was Monday.

But why would you let Rivera twist in the wind for so long if you knew you was going to bring him back anyway? It just doesn't make sense and it's not fair to Rivera if you ask me. There has to be a motive or some logic behind all of this, we will find out soon enough though.

You do know that the new quick score offense the patriots are running was inspired by Chip Kelly right?

No I didn't. That's kind of why I said I didn't know much about Chip Kelly. I guess all we need after Chip is the Patriots and Brady.*shrugs*

"I don't know anything about this, but my opinion is superior"

I have an opinion. Is that cool with you? I didn't say I hate or didn't like Kelly. I must've been dreaming that we tried to use zone reads for OUR(not oregon) offense and sucked until we used it as just a wrinkle. If he's a leader of men and not just boys and can make the read poo work I'm all for it.

It's not that the spread option doesn't work in the nfl. The way we've used it here just doesn't. SF,SEA,Washington, all use it and all are in the playoffs and our old coach foxy won a playoff game last year using it with The Golden Calf of Bristol

If its playoffs or bust then you might as well interview your new coach now. He is not gonna produce that season under that type of pressure. At least Chip has trust in his team...Ron does not and it shows on the field

I feel that if you are going to stick with somebody you need to stick with that person. It's not fair to tell someone that the only way you are going to keep your job after next season is you have to make the playoffs. What some people don't realize is that the playoffs are not guaranteed at all. If you are going to give someone that type of stipulation you might as well fire them now. Because it's not a given that we are going to make the Super Bowl. It doesn't make sense at all.

JR pay for a big name coach? Lol

John Fox was one of the Top 5 highest Paid Coaches in the NFL while he was here, the whole thing about JR not paying is a complete myth based on 2 seasons when he was trying to stick it to the Players union.

people need to get their heads out of their asses and think instead of spewing nonsense all the time.

Panthers have always(outside of the years associated with the lockout) paid money, they have always been near the max for the Cap and have always paid coaches well when they deserve it.

now has spending all that money always = success? nope but that was a Marty Hurney issue for over paying for players that didn't deserve the contracts we gave them like Jake and Williams, where there was no reason to give them half of what they got much less the total amount.

probably right and i think thats the case with any other legit coaching options. by the time a new GM is hired there will be no options much better than rivera so we get stuck with the status quo for another year.

Come on, rayzor. I would think you'd be more optimistic. Getting "stuck with the status quo"? Have more faith, bro. If Rivera is here, I guarantee we'll be in the postseason.

By our record and all appearances, we seemed so far away this past season, but we were surprisingly close to not only the playoffs, but greatness. The experience for Ron and Cam were invaluable, and sets us up for a good luck at playing in January, 2014.

Well, it's definitely not going to be "status quo" next year, if for no other reason than we'll have a new GM.
