Our Cap Isn't In Good Shape For 2013

Agree. Edwards, Nakamura, Anderson, Gamble are obvious cuts. We're also going to restrucure CJ, DWill, Gross and Beason's contracts.

With how much Guaranteed money Johnson has on his deal, it's going to be hard to restructure him at this moment. I mean his cap hit the next 3 years is already ridiculous as it is.

I understand that cutting Gamble saves us the most, but what FA are you going to sign who is as good at their respective postion as Gamble is at his? He's easily a top 10 NFL corner on a team with no other top individual talent in the secondary.

Gamble is a top 10 corner every other year

OK then maybe not CJ but everyone else who has a big contract I'm sure will be asked to restructure.

We need to re-sign Dwan Edwards and maybe Munnerlyn.

btdubs for anybody who was a staunch hurney supporter has he landed any executive job in the personnel management dept. of another team yet? doesn't have to be GM could be anything. surely being this cap genius who never misses in the first round of the draft he should've been in demand

Who's to say he wanted another job right away?

I don't think restructuring contracts is as easy as some think....

It still can create more of the same problems down the road. Take Beason for example...ask him to restructure and he turns out to never be able to comeback. That bonus money created in a restructure would still be an issue if you need to part with him.

Dwan is already signed for 2013. I'll bet we let Capt explore his options and re-sign only on the cheap.

We atleast have to look what teams are willing to pay for Gamble in a trade.. He very well could be our best trading item. One of the better CB with only 2 years left on his contract.

3/4 is not out of the picture and then we just have to hit a homerun in the draft.

Its a risky move, but we are cornered with all those shitty contracts.

Chris Gamble: It’s sad to say, but the Panthers almost have to cut their best cornerback, because he can provide more cap relief than anyone on the roster. Gamble has a $10.9 million cap figure. The Panthers could free up $7.9 million by releasing him.

Ron Edwards: The aging and often-injured defensive tackle almost certainly will be gone. The Panthers instantly would clear $2.5 million by releasing him.

Haruki Nakamura: The Panthers signed him as a free agent in 2012, and Nakamaura didn’t really work out. The Panthers could free up $1.8 million by releasing him.

Easy 12.2 Million saved right there, Gamble isn't worth it, Ron Edwards definitely injured too much, and hopefully we can draft a replacement. Nakamura, i dont even want to begin to discuss that waste of space.

The Panthers currently have $136 million committed toward a 2013 salary cap that is expected to be slightly more than $120 million.

That knocks us down to 124 million essentially, then you come down to the hard decisions on Beason, Williams, and Gross, while giving us room to sign rookies, expiring contract players, and FA.

Gross wont be touched, so Beason and Williams will have to restructure or wont be back.

We're tight money wise but that's probably means we're ready to contend for the playoffs. We lost most of our games by less than a TD. Manhandled the Falcons twice(with one unlucky lost), swept the saints and we have something to settle with the Buccaneers(we had no business losing to them twice). Minus those last second lost to the Falcons, Chicago we could easily have been a 10-6 team contending for the wild card.

Our defense has now arrived. Probably a mid level defense. We just need to take care of the WR position in the draft and a little twirking of the OL together with the injured players coming back next year. I can see us sweeping the saints(again), buccaneers and split with falcons next year. Team building is easy when you have a monster of a franchise QB like Cam. Can't wait!

I think Gross is a likely candidate to cut. He will be 33 years old in July and is not the pro bowl player that he was a few years ago. We can cut him as a June 1 cut and save 9.7 million. Add that to the 3.5 we are carrying over and throw in Nakamura and Edwards and we are suddenly under the cap even if we keep Gamble.
