The reason we retain Rivera?

Simple. The answer is the Chicago Bears.

Rivera is respected and well liked by the players. The players believe in what he stands for. I don't think he shows a lot of emotion during games, but I think in the locker room and during practice it's different. I mean hell, look at my avatar. He gets fired up at times. Hell, Belicheck doesn't show emotion at all. If your players believe in you, you don't want to break that bond and bring in somebody else.

As for the Bears, I use them as an example because the players knew the failures were on them. They believed in Lovie Smith. And now that team is jaded and probably won't do well next year at all. Hester is contemplating retirement just b/c Lovie is leaving. Im sure Peppers could care less, but there's a lot of loyal players up there that have been with Lovie since day one. It leaves a sour taste in the players mouth, and we don't want that happening here.

I can understand the Lovie situation. You have to look at what he has done over the years there. He is a proven coach and he has been to the Super Bowl. Rivera is not even touching that right now mainly due to the fact he hasn't coached that long. I don't think bringing somebody else in will destroy the relationship of the players. The players are going to play regardless no matter who is coaching. It's also not about having a coach who show emotion. It's about having a coach who is going to be consistent and what the fan base can believe in and ultimately give the team a better chance to win the Super Bowl. I don't believe Rivera is that guy.

I think we will find out what will happen eventually. We just need keep our patients which is hard to do.

2-3 more pieces of the puzzle added -OL,WR.DB (and we don't need studs, just upgrades)

53 man roster staying mostly healthy (especially at key positions)

players executing in the final 4 mins. of every game.

I know it's not the sexy answer to our problems but, it's what i believe we need.

Only in Carolina would we be clamoring to keep a loosing coach..

I'm sure he's emotional and is well liked by the players, but he's a lousy head coach. Given the level of talent he has on that team. they have under preformed. When opposing well respected coaches, he looses by a significant margin. I just don't want to keep paying for his learning mistakes and see him leave next year after another season of getting thrashed in the first half of the season.

I just see the worst option is that we keep Ron, fire Chud, Hire Norv and kick the whole mess down to next year (firing Ron after a 2-8 start and handing it off to Norv for a 8-8 record) so the new GM (Beane?!?! LMAO) get's to decide between hiring all new staff or handing it off to Norv. Thus continuing our limbo to 2014..

just because the players love him doesn't mean he can bring the best out of them. playing with intensity and playing well aren't synonyms.

and if the players love him so much, they should have played better and won more games.

lovie's gone because he had mike tice as his OC. he went from an OC that was too pass happy and ran plays that took too long to develop with a piss poor Oline and got his QB killed continually, to a offensive line coach who wanted to keep the ball on the ground with a piss poor Oline, despite having a QB with a good arm and a couple good receivers...including a real gem in brandon marshall.

his defense was great. his team management was too lopsided, and that's always been the case.

he didn't put the offense in position to help his team win. his was not a balanced team and for most of the past few years since losing the superbowl (primarily because they didn't have enough offensive strength) they've been mediocre or just barely better than average. they've had 3 winning seasons and 3 non-winning seasons. expectations were high and he couldn't deliver and over the years their FO gave him opportunities and incentives to succeed but couldn't.

If the new GM plans on keeping Rivera he needs to be in it for the long haul. We don't need a one year audition or anything like that. If he is going to commit to Rivera he really needs to commit to Rivera or let him go.

Putting Rivera on a short leash will hurt his confidence and the team confidence going into the season. If he is going to stay he doesn't need that extra pressure to perform well. He should be able to go into the season comfortable.

actually he's not. He was, in reality, yelling at Captain Munnerlyn for arguing with a Falcon player. The caption from the Atlanta paper attributing it to him yelling at Hardy was a complete fabrication.

poo just listen to the video of Hardy doing it. At no point do you hear the coach yell at him, at no point does Hardy acknowledge that a coach is yelling at him.

I'll have to dig up the retraction, but people who keep bashing Rivera for yelling at Hardy are completely wrong.

I'm not using this as a reason to defend Rivera's coaching ability, however. I just hate seeing repeated spreading of misinformation.
