Matt Williamson from ESPNinsider also thinks Luke is the top defender.

NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year: Panthers LB Luke Kuechly

First of all, much unlike last year, when I had to choose between Von Miller, Aldon Smith andJ.J. Watt, this defensive rookie class isn't very strong at the top.

Overall, this class is filled with quality prospects rather than ultra-prospects who are destined for multiple Pro Bowl visits. But Kuechly is a fine player, and I don't think it will be long before he is mentioned as one of the better second-level defenders in the NFL.

Tackle stats can be very misleading, but it is hard to ignore the fact that Kuechly's league-leading 164 tackles are 15 more than the player who ranks second, NaVorro Bowman.

Kuechly was a little up and down as a coverage player and isn't a great pass-rushing linebacker, but his recognition skills against the run and the pass are exceptional. He is always around the ball and looks like the leader for years to come of the Panthers' much-improved defense.

Just as Carolina has a great building block on offense in QB Cam Newton, it now has the same on defense in Kuechly.

Here's my final top 10.
