Mr. Scot

And Denver just named a new OC (Adam Gase).

Wonder if Whisenhunt would be Arians' OC.

He'd be more likely to switch jobs with Arians should Arians go to the desert. He could be a great vet sounding board for McCoy or Rivera. He could also do the same for Bradley in JAX, although that O needs more of a turnaround that SD or CAR.

From what I've read, Arians is considered the frontrunner for the AZ job, so no way he goes back to AZ to be the OC, not when he'd get paid more from his contract.

We're free and clear to interview Whis now, he's not gonna be a HC and only the Jets and Panthers need an OC (besides AZ obviously). I don't think Whis would want to go to Chicago under another offensive coach.

edit: d'oh, didn't think of the Colts needing an OC if Arians leave. So them too.

His signing back on in Arizona is one of those things I seriously doubt would happen, Only reason I'd even think it plausible is their previous working relationship in Pittsburgh. But even there, who knows if they're friends or were just coworkers?

So Mr. Scot, assumming that Arians is hired in Arizona, who are some the candidates for next year?

First name that likely pops up on people's radar next year is Greg Roman since he was shut out this season. You could rightly expect Lovie Smith to be a popular option too. Ken Whisenhunt will be looking to get back in the game. Maybe Josh McDaniels as well.

If you mean the Panthers specifically, it'd depend on whether Gettleman could convince Richardson to look at something other than just defensive coordinators, though for all we know that may be his preference too.

I'd add Jay Gruden and Zimmer (CIN O/D) to that list. Darrell Bevell (SEA O) was a finalist for a job and interviewed at a few other places. The NFL may retest guys like O'Brien at Penn St. and Kelly in ND should they keep things going there. Younger names that could get in the mix: Kyle Shanahan (WAS OC), John Pagano (SD DC)

I knew I was forgetting someone. Bevell is the name I was trying to think of. Thanks.

Pagano and Zimmer make sense. Part of me wonders if Kyle wants to take over for his dad at some point (seems like a stretch, though). And yeah, there's Jay.

The usual retreads (Cowher, Gruden, Dungy) will get brought up, and probably shot down. Likewise, the hot college coach of the moment is generally in the discussion.

I'd like to see them at least interviewing more people, or understand that there is a sense of urgency, in what SHOULD be Cam's biggest development year, and that a continuation of what we've wanted to do here is important, and that if we start 2-8 next year expect to be fuging fired along with Rivera... oh and hey, maybe use the best RB combo in the National Football League to its potential.
