NFL Coaching / GM News

Mary Kay Cabot and Ian Rappaport both confirming that Browns CEO Joe Banner is already in Phoenix and has an interview scheduled with Chip Kelly on Friday (the game is Thursday night).

Whether or not he's asking for roster control, the Browns are willing to give it to him.

From a report earlier today on ESPN that did in fact confirm that Banner is in Phoenix and an interview is in place for sometime this weekend. Like I said, I expect him to get the job with a ridiculous contract around 5-6 million a season from the Browns. Eagles might still be in it for him depending on how tonight in Atlanta goes.

I think he will be fired. But somebody must know something.

The longer this goes on the less likely that is. There are a lot of coaching vacancies and the blue chip coaches are going to go fast. I think our entire organization is smart enough to know that replacing Rivera without a clear upgrade would be a terrible idea so every day is a little more job security for him. If the GM thing goes into next week I think the best we can hope for is another year of exactly what we have with a mandate of playoffs or you're fired. I'm really hoping he learned his lesson with Fox and won't put us through another "let him play out his contract and just don't renew him" situation.

As for someone knowing something that's really unlikely unless that person is Tom Sorensen and if he knows he's not talking. We have the most media-phobic organization in history.

I understand that. From my understanding is that JR is suppose to meet with Rivera tomorrow. So maybe we know something soon. Also teams are doing interviews but nobody hasn't hired anybody yet. That's a good thing because we could be somewhat close to hiring our GM. We have to be patient because I really want us to get it right this time with the GM search and HC search if the job becomes available.

I hope so because I'm impatient.

I don't think we will find out anything on the day he meets with Rivera because (in my eyes) that would punk whoever the incoming GM is. Even if JR is going to make the final decision on Rivera I think he won't do it until the GM can announce it and be the guy that did it.

But I hope I'm wrong. I want some information.

So we dont have to " worry" that someone will hire Chud away from us this year?

For those that think our staff did a bang up job this year, the fact no one wants to talk to Chud should make you think twice.

Obviously, the professionals do not think much of his playcalling this year either.

Some information on one of the coaches.

While the opinion of potential employers remains more important, he got a strong endorsement from someone who knows a thing or two about offense and winning — Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

“I think he’s ready; I think he’s paid his dues,” Manning said, via Tom Kensler of the Denver Post. “Mike’s a good leader. He’s had some good coaches that have been mentors to him, different coaches that he’s worked with in his years in the NFL that I think he’s incorporated some of their leadership philosophies and his own philosophy.

“I tell you, he’s a worker. We spend a lot of hours together — early mornings, late nights — trying to get kind of our plan in place for what kind of offense we were going to be. There is no substitute for work ethic, and Mike certainly has that. . . .
