NFL Coaching / GM News

I can't believe people are actually using the development of Cam as a defense of Rivera. I sometimes wonder if Rivera is actually trying to ruin Cam. We need to get him a real coach who knows how to develop QBs and ditch this terrible excuse of an offense that Rivera and Chud keep trying to force down his throat. These are some of the most important developmental years of a QBs career and we are wasting them with amateurs.

It isn't a Rivera defense....

Just acknowledging his development is likely more important than if you can find a coach that is a slightly better game day manager than what Rivera was in years 1 and 2 of his HC debut.

Also, anyone that is going to try to turn Cam into a "real" QB will ruin him. Newton has accounted for more offense than anyone in NFL history through the first 2 seasons of a career ...him being a complete unstoppable for simply requires time. No way around that. LOL....suggesting Cam first 2 yrs have been wasted is a joke. The lack of talent around him has been the joke. We could of been a playoff team last year with something better than a laughing stock D and ST. This year? Chud got lazy and though Cam could be a one man show to early....they eventually corrected it

I find it interesting that the big rumor now is Heckert/Reid to Arizona.

Steve Keim would get majorly shafted. I heard from some Cards fans that Keim wanted Cutler/Peterson instead of Leinart/Brown in the draft. Could you imagine? Cutler, AP, Boldin, Fitz all on the same offense. Boy did they go wrong.

I think the only other interview he has at the moment is with San Diego.

While I have nothing more to go on other than Gantt's comments, I believe we were in fact interested in Harbaugh. I also believe we were summarily told that he had no interest in us.

I used to think that too, but the further we get from it the more I think maybe Gantt was just given some bad info.

In my mind, I already pretty much expected that he'd not be a prospect.

Still wanna wait till it's official though.

Hmm, I must have missed this one earlier today....

Multiple reports indicate the Chargers have asked for and received permission to interview Colts vice president of football operations Tom Telesco and Cardinals vice president of player personnel Steve Keim. Telesco has been in the Colts organization since 1998 and was promoted to his current position after six years as the team’s director of player personnel.

Some of us (specifically me) want Rivera gone because we believe that is the only way we get rid of Chud and some of our other offensive coaches.

Why? You said it yourself in your last sentence.

Well I called Chud the most overrated aspect of this team last offense when everyone was on his nuts. So I am no Chud fan boy....

I just see the fact some bad is worth it pending you look at Cam's development being big picture the most important thing. Soon, coaches should have much less to do with what Cam and our offense do. Will make Chud and future Chud less impactful in a negative way.

You see Fox calling his bullpoo offense in Denver? OC's aren't big factors once QBs reach beastmode level. I think Cam could be there soon

Wow really? That's crazy. Rivera's been Cam's biggest supporter and he's not the one developing his skills. Rivera's developing his character and leadership qualities and does a fine job knowing how to handle Cam and shield him in front of the press. In addition the best type of person to develop Cam's skills is a new age coach who believes in the spread option. Chud's the man for that job. If Rivera goes, Cam's days will be numbered.

If you truly believe an old school coach like say, Reid or whoever the hell decided to make Michael Vick play in a pro style offense or Fisher who had no clue what to do with Young, I don't know what to tell you.

They may not be as good as Harbaugh, or Carroll, but at least Rivera's inexperience means he's letting Chud run an offense that best suits Cam. The only thing better for Cam would be a college coach and I doubt guys like Urban Meyer are ever coming to Charlotte.

One thing I can say about this coaching staff is that they are very, very open minded and willing to learn. No ego.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
