An indicator that Rivera might be safe

Someone has been spoiled by John Fox. This wasn't going to fixed in two years, only an idiot would think so. With all the injuries the Panthers have suffered this year, it's a wonder that they even won 7 games.

Also last year the Panthers weren't even in a lot of games, this year at least the Panthers were in all but two of their games. They finally learned how to win those close games at the end of the season.

What games were they not in last year? Tennessee and New Orleans. That's it. You know for a fact they underachieved this year. they should have won 3-4 more games, and Rivera is a large reason they did not.

Better answer is Hurney poorly constructed this team to sustain injuries (and in general).

Rivera isn't the reason at all. You can point to plays this year that could have changed the outcome of the game. When you can point out specific plays, you know that it's execution not the coaching staff. I don't understand how people can blatantly ignore that fact.

It would be one thing if you could point out a whole game (excluding the Giants and Broncos game) where the Panthers played piss poor. The difference now is that the team is making plays down the stretch (ex: AE's punt return today).

On top of that, there were games last year that were close but they came down to plays, this year it came down to "play". If you make one more play than the opposing team, you win.

When you have people like Gross and Olsen saying what they said on the record... I honestly don't see how you fire the guy whatsoever!

I think he deserves another shot... I think this team is growing and trending in the right direction. A play here or there... A call here or there, and we're in the playoffs.

I was kind of indifferent but was leaning towards wanting him to stay, but after today, and reading that article... I definitely want him to stay... We can win a Super Bowl with Rivera... I hate him sometimes, and I ALWAYS hate him on the sidelines, but the players are all in. And being that they are despite this seasons problems, shows me that he must be doing something right!

As a fan, I can't go against the players' wishes... Rivera better stay... And what IF* we owe all of this to Hurney??? What if JR wanted Hurney to give Ribera the axe... But didn't, because Hurney also knew that the players were buying into what he's been selling... The results n the field just weren't showing up. This could very well be the case... And we may owe Hurney more than we could have ever imagined come next January!

I don't think they have "anything" at all. What did he earn in the last four games? Wins over below average teams, barring Atlanta? That is what happened a year ago, and not much has changed except the effectiveness of the offense (which has regressed). I will boast Rivera's defensive intellect, but by the time the defense clicked, it was already too late.

I won't be particularly angry if Rivera stayed. I am willing to give the guy one more season, but I just have this knack that once again, I, as well as the the rest of Panther Nation, will be disappointed yet again.

If they are going to leave it up to the GM, then they better sign them quickly. Otherwise the top coaching candidates will be gone.

Well, they do have a head start.

And the guys some media think the team has the most interest in (Ross and Gettleman) can interview immediately.

ehh I don't know about that. Panthers.com has had articles over the years about players just as they were cut... admittedly that is more in training camp, but yeah.

Yeah. Can't go by training camp.

Remember a couple years back I looked at the team page articles and said on here "I think Delhomme might be benched" based on what I read. He actually wound up being cut.

This reminds me of that.

That reminds me...

Giants DC Perry Fewell blames his players

Not a good idea.

For whatever else you think of him, Rivera is by all accounts a guy who accepts blame and deflects credit.

Obviously everyone should know you don't do that, but behind closed doors; the players and coaches know that the game comes down to who plays better.

Even CJ said it, some guys on the team work harder than others. Some guys just didn't want it earlier in the season.

The players are stupid. There were players that loved Fox and Hurney as well. Their job is to play...for ANY coach that is hired.

I'll say it again and it has been said time and time again by myself and others...Ron Rivera won ONE big game in two years and won ZERO games in a sound fashion. Every win he's ever had has been in doubt to the very end. He was lucky the team got up for the Atlanta game. I PROMISE you that if he is back next year we will not be better than 8-8 and out of the playoffs yet again because of his piss poor decision-making and his lack of ability to control our talented (but also young) superstar.
