IF Ron stays.

I say playoffs.

It seems like ever since we destroyed the Falcons that this team has been playing well, and beating quality opponents.

I think that the defense is finally starting to buy into his program.

The man has always coached great defenses, I knew it was only a matter of time before they started flying around and swarming to the ball. I think he deserves one more year. Playoffs or bust.

The Chargers and Raiders constitute as quality opponents?

I'm still on the fence about him staying. We almost tried to piss that win today away in usual Rivera fashion. Absolutely though it goes without saying, playoffs or be shown the door. I'm just going to be very pissed if we waste another season by making the decision to retain him. I will happily eat crow if he gets us to the playoffs though.

I'll be pissed when we waste another season by hiring a new head coach.

We were spoiled when John Fox took us from 1-15 to the Super Bowl in two seasons.

I believe Ron Rivera gets it now. All he has to do is can Chud and hire Norv to work with Scott.

I believe this is going to be exactly what happens, at this point.

But I was the new GM, I'd let Rivera know quickly that he is on a very, very short less. Losing is unacceptable.

Pretty funny how so many want him gone. Look at Fox as an example; never had back to back winning seasons here. He goes to Denver and has 2 great seasons on a row. Ever think maybe it is beyond just coaching here? I believe we had a losing mentality here and it has taken Rivera and the firing of Hurney to remove it. I'm all for Rivera staying another season.

    • This is factually incorrect. He was a two time Pro Bowler with the Rams and in fact statistically he was better with the Rams in his best season there than he has been with the Lions(could change with this season). Some of his per game stats have creeped into being marginally better with the Lions but there have not been dramatic differences in his play, actually. The biggest reason that McVay and he ended up splitting was McVay didn't think he could win a title with Goff. TBH.....so far he was 100% correct. Stafford almost immediately won them a SB and Goff in a historic run was about 70% of the reason the Lions faltered in the NFC championship game. He missed critical throws all over the first half and throughout the second half that he normally wouldn't. He choked. So, until Goff actually does win a SB...McVay has been right.
    • they have the best defense they've had in a long time...probably the best in the reid/mahommes era.  but i think they are probably the most beatable they've been in a while as well. record doesn't exactly bear that out, but they just don't look as strong on offense as they usually do. lots of reasons for that, like trying to build chemistry with newer receivers, but right now they just aren't as frightening as they typically are. i mean they'll probably win tomorrow, but i don't see them as the strongest team in the AFC right now.
    • He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost. I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason.  I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture. I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.
