1) Keep Rivera, find a new GM, 2013 another tryout forRivera.

2) Fire Rivera, find new GM and possibly miss out on top coaching candidates due to the time it takes to hire a GM.

3) Fire Rivera, hire one coach/GM to take full control of the team.

Which do you go with?

Good points, because there are consequences that many are ignoring.

I think the process will be respected. Nothing happens until we hire the GM--however, I think the GM (if we are simply waiting until we can announce it due to contractual obligations to another team) would already have a coach in mind, so it could happen very quickly.

If the new GM is also the next coach, then it makes sense that Beane would have been announced as the GM--why wait. (operating under the assumption that he keeps his job as GM if the coach has control of scouting and player personnel).

I doubt that we fire the coach and then search for a GM. You are right--we could miss out on a better coach and a good GM.

JR does not talk to the press much, but it seems that he would have endorsed his coach in public if his job were safe. Rivera's comments to the press were basically to say that nothing would be done until the end of the season (responding to Hurney's mid season firing).

About Beane functioning as a true GM: Do we really want Beane negotiating trades with the Patriots, Packers, Broncos, Giants, or 49ers? They would eat him alive. Look at the teams that smelled blood in the water with Hurney over the past few years. They knew they could get Hurney to sell the cow for magic beans. And they knew Marty didn't know Jack.

Id have to know who we would be replacing Rivera with first.

The think I really like about Rivera x's and o's wise is he is good a D but always isnt conservative on O. Although at times Chud can call dumb plays.

The question about Rivera is his personnel managing / motivating.

In there I love our schemes.

Well said. We wanted a less-conservative offense, which is why we wanted Fox gone. We got it. With a wide-open offense there are going to be more backfires. .Chud has called some bad plays, but at least he seems to try. I was tired of the draw play on 3rd and 7. I was tired of hearing, "a punt is not a bad play." I used to predict the plays we were going to run under Davidson with about 75% accuracy. My sons used to laugh because I was usually right. It was that predictable.

Game management to me is the only issue. I think it would be hard to motivate players who have been grossly overpaid for underperformance, which is what got Hurney fired. However, the young guys are motivated--Hardy, Kuechly, Cam, etc. Thomas Davis is. Today will determine how motivated players like DJ Campbell, Dockery, Thomas, and Norman are. However, I am not sure that Rivera had anything to do with it.

WHen you reward subpar play, players become subpar. Godfrrey is horribly overpaid. He makes one or two plays a game and parades around as if he just put us in the Super Bowl. The RBs don't seem as hungry.

One is what I think will likely happen.

Two is a possibility but I'd likely prefer option one to that.

Three is an absolute no way, no how.

Fire Rivera, hire GM, acquire new Head Coach.

Why #2 would be the outcome is beyond me.

If I'm interviewing a potential GM he better have a pretty damned good idea how he's going to turn this organization around right fugging now.

If I hear "Not sure what staff I would hire, I'll start conducting interviews once I have my office remodeled and have hired a secretary with huge bolt ons." it's cya later.

My GM hire would have a list shorter than a book on French Military victories.

I'd expect my GM hired on Tuesday would have his Head Coach in the bag ready to hire Wednesday.

(Of course you have to do the ludicrous half dozen or so courtesy HC Interviews to satisfy the league, then actually ink the contract.)

It never occured to anyone Richardson fired the Village Idiot and hired Accorsi to begin the GM search mid season so the Panthers could hit the Offseason running immediately with a GM ready to go?
