So let's say Ross gets the GM job...

So we should hire a DC that is not as good as Rivera was?

Nah

New GM comes in, keeps Rivera, but the offensive staff house is cleaned.

The defense and new special teams coaching seems to be legit.

I wouldn't hire Fewell, but I think Ross might.

Interesting theory there. All the offensive staff? Unless you get Norv you're forcing Newton to start from scratch there.

And on ST, Bobby April is likely to be available. I'd take him and move Rodgers back to being an assistant.

yes, but Ross wasn't hired until after Accorsi left.

FWIW, I put up a quick idea of just such a thing the other day and published it today, here:

I don't disagree- Cronyism isn't always a bad thing. Guys should know who they're working with, to a point. You should know you mesh. I get that.

That said, I like Ross, and don't like Fewell.

Ross is post Accorsi, but you'd rightly expect them to share a load of the same friends (starting with Jerry Reese).

My own thought is that if Accorsi does go the crony route, it's more likely Gettleman than Ross.

If we want to go young though, it's Ross.

Interesting specs on the coaching stuff, especially offensive guys that Rivera could bring in (though I'd still have the concern mentioned above). Do you know what system Pat Shurmur works in?

Shurmur's WCO.

Prefer a Coryell guy for sure. If Chudzinski is gone (of which I'm not convinced) I think you've gotta go after Turner.

Not likely Panthers related, but was wondering what you thought of this and this.

definitely prefer Coryell myself here. I don't think Chud's out either - I did hear a rumbling that started out as "they don't like Shula" but ended up more as "they want someone Cam relates to".

interesting on Sarkisian. He's pro style, learned under Carroll whose stock is obviously a lot higher right now, and he's Coryell, as far as I can tell.

Ault would be a smart hire. I did like Kaepernick coming out, and more teams are using the pistol. I'm not a huge fan, but it's successful. He'd be smart to deal with how to add pistol ideals to the inside and outside zone, since marketing to option-hungry teams might be less sustainable.

College guys doing consulting work is smart. I wonder why Mike Leach didn't.

Chud is fuging stupid. I don't even care if Cam is familiar with him. He goes in full retard mode anytime we're in crucial situations. I even said this last year. Sure you can go have Coryell guys like Turner, but if we can't get one then get the next best thing. Chud has to go.

Interesting. Hard to imagine letting Shula walk given Newton's progress.

Granted it's not his system, but what would you think of Shurmur as a QB coach?

Shurmur would be a smart QB coach hire, if one was needed on this staff. A change from a guy heavily indebted to the scheme might actually bring some welcome change - a little more work on touch, and more work into the shorter reads. Who knows. I like Shula more, FWIW.

I have no issues with Shula. Newton is developing well enough.

If they made a change though, valid points about Shurmur.
