Something worth remembering about Rivera...

players choice may not be the best choice.

I'm definitely not always in favor of doing what players say. Heck, I remember Dan Morgan coming on here suggesting the best thing we could do was sign Michael Vick.

Whether I agree or not isn't really the thing though.

With smith, we know Richardson will at least listen to him.

He may or may not sway the decision (more likely just delay it) but Jerry won't brush him off.

I have been in favor of Rivera going, but I have to admit that he does seem to engender a substantial amount of loyalty from his players. Also, the team has certainly not given up or stopped giving full effort from what I am seeing. If anything they seem more motivated and hungry at this stage of the season, with nothing to play for other than pride and improvement. That certainly counts for something given the disappointing way this season unfolded relative to expectations.

I just finishing watching the last few games. This is not a team you can just dismiss. This is a team on the verge of being relevant. You cannot walk away from that. There is a good possibility that this is the team we want.

We are not at that point yet where we can beat everyone. But, we are at that point where we can beat anyone. We are one scary team. With the future ahead of us. That is worth one more year on my Rivera calendar.

Changing Coaches is not an automatic upgrade. Just maybe, keeping Rivera will continue the continuity this team has lacked. Don't be short sighted because you want something that is just out of reach.

Beating anyone is special. Quit wanting quality wins against unquality teams. We beat teams we should. Isn't that enougn?

Ah the hell with it. You are either with Rivera or against him. Nothing I can say will change that. I just happen to see a team on the rise. And wish for that ascention to continue.

Really, didn't people say the same thing when we finished last year the same way, winning 4 of the last 6 games. With the same record at this time last year. But this time is somehow different, the future is bright... Rivera has done nothing special that should have people clamoring for more.

And this the players haven't quit on him and are playing hard is just a load of crap that lossing teams say, like it justifies the fact their team sucks. These are pro football player's with ego's,pride, looking to keep a job, wanting big contract's,chasing records, their playing hard cause they love the game and have personal goals, Not because they have this love for Ron and his vision.

Our players are not frauds, guys. It's sad that some of you think it would be normal for our players to lie through their teeth even if it is to the media. There's no way you can be a winning team if you aren't on the same page with the coaches. These players don't know if their coaches are going to be here next season. Giving up on a coach this season would create for a losing relationship next season if the coaches return. Our players are "forced" to support their coaches 100% in order to be the best team they can possibly be.

We should be proud that we have players that understand that it requires honest teamwork to have a chance at being successful. Yeah, I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true. This team has players that are strong-willed and remain positive no matter how much sh*t they step on. We're not the Jets, we're not the Eagles. There isn't a huge disconnect among the team and we don't have players that simply give up. Sometimes I wonder why some you are a fan of this team if you think they are just like other weak-minded squads that tank the season when faced with adversity. Our players are not "secret" quitters, guys. It's embarrassing that some of you think that would be okay.

Keep pounding?

It's the motto...of the team...

And our field's made out of marshmallow with candy cane goal post, then the rain turn's into pretty pink and white butterfly's once it hit's the upper level's at BOF.

yeah, i don't think their opinion should be overlooked, but i dont know how much it would couny for. the decision may not be popular among the players, but its just business and they'd get used to the new coach just like they got used to rivera. the quicker they start winning, the sooner they'll get attached and if they don't think he was a problem they should have stepped up earlier.

agreed with this. like i said, i think they'd get used to the new coach. they'll get fired up, esp. if the new coach doesn't take two years to figure out how to get their team to win.

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
