Cam fined an additonal 10k, Hardy, Godfrey also fined

Things aren't the same any more. The NFL rules are reviewed and re-written every couple years.

Have a team, or play in the league? Have to follow the rules.

He did follow the rules. There is no rule saying you can't hit a QB from behind. He hit Palmer pretty much the exact way you're supposed to, between the knees and shoulders, face up, didn't launch, tackled through him. If he had been coming from in front of Palmer and hit him in the chest there would be no discussion, there wouldn't have been anything he could have done more legal and within the rules. Because it came from behind, Palmer got hurt and they want to try to say it was an illegal hit. That doesn't fly.

A lot of people here are forgetting that you can tackle with your shoulder.

That sack was going to happen one way or another. Hardy had plenty of time to use better judgement. Look what happened after the sack. Palmer had to leave the game. This is the exact situation that led to the creation of the rule, guys. This is a textbook penalty and he was right to get fined. The goal should be to get a sack, not to injure the quarterback. What Hardy did was a cheap shot. I would have been a lot happier with a clean sack.

(f) If a player uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/โ€hairlineโ€ parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily. Although such violent or unnecessary use of the helmet and facemask is impermissible against any opponent, game officials will give special attention in administering this rule to protecting those players who are in virtually defenseless postures, including but not limited to:

(1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless playerโ€™s head, neck, or face with the helmet or facemask, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him

I also find it funny you bolded parts you think help your argument, but ignore the surrounding text that puts it into context.

(f) If a player uses any part of his helmet or facemast to butt, spear or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily. Greg didn't.

(1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player's head, neck, or face with the helmet or facemask... Kills the argument for section (1) immediately.

Apparently the NFL disagrees with you.

It would have taken a split second longer to reach him with his shoulder than his facemask and that split second could have been the difference between a successful offensive play and a failed one. The sack wasn't going to happen one way or the other, in fact IT DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN. It was an incomplete pass. So seeing as how he was already a split second late, he obviously didn't have time to go out of his way to be as gentle and considerate as possible. His goal didn't seem to be to injure at all, his goal seemed to be to take the QB down as quickly as possible. It was a textbook something alright, a textbook tackle. Face up, drive through (not launching), between the knees and shoulder pads.

Yeah things today are different than in the past. Safety is a BIG thing.

In the 50's an ironworker might walk a steel beam 40 stories up. Think OSHA would allow that now?

Kids wear helmets to ride their bike. I certainly didn't do that as a kid.

Seat belts in cars? What are seat belts?

Stock car drivers used to have a smoke while the crew poured in the gas from a metal can.

Things aren't the same any more. The NFL rules are reviewed and re-written every couple years.

Have a team, or play in the league? Have to follow the rules.

I understand your point, and I'm not lobbying for "the good ole days". Put a red shirt on them if you want. Give them flags to be grabbed signifying a tackle. I really don't care.

What I do care about is that the rules are fair for everyone involved, and they are worded in such a way that the refs, coaches and players all know what constitutes a violation. I would argue that is not the case right now. Get 10 objective people in a room viewing the same play in the context of the current rules, and you will have a variety of opinion on whether the play was legal or not. That is the part that is untenable.

So sad, more is made of out Cam preventing the defendant from hurting him than of the fact tha the defendant was intentionally trying to hurt him. Tell me if something just isn't right with how Cam is being treated?

I wonder if Peter King had anything to do with the extra $10,000 being tagged unto Cam's bill. Must show this little punk whose boss. Just like the NCAA crap. This will give the Cam haters more wood to throw on their self-righetous fire.

I'm re-watching the Raiders game, and just noticed #90 on the play in which Cam and Tommy Kelly got into it. Bryant, #90, is the guy who actually got the sack on the play. So what did he do for a celebration? He got up, mimicked ripping a heart out of the opponents chest, held the imaginary heart in his hand for a few seconds and opened and closed his fist a few times to simulate that it was still beating, and then threw the heart to the ground.

Is this really legal? How is this different than doing a throat slash or other violent portrayal?

You think the play was a sack. Your point is invalid.

Seriously, though. Try doing this: come behind someone at a 45ยฐ angle. You can't hit him high, so you have to aim for the middle of his back. You hit with your shoulder. Where is your head? If your head isn't making contact with the person, then you are not anatomically correct.

Hardy didn't ram, lead, or anything else with his facemask. Yes, his facemask hit. What was he supposed to do, detatch his head from between his shoulders?
