Cam Newton: Best First Two Seasons Ever

No doubt Cam is.x times better. Im just saying Jake took us a Superbowl in his first year here....that means something..right?..

I loved having Jake as our QB, and that was a special season from start to finish. It's just that we had a better team then, and Jake wasn't asked to be our whole offense.

One note about Marino: he was drafted by a Dolphins team coming off a Super Bowl trip. Cam went to the 2-14 Panthers.

I know where and when Marino was drafted. That doesn't detract at all from what he was able to do, particularly in his second year. I'm sorry, but it's not like Marino was coasting by on a good team.

Cam is a great player and has had an amazing first two years, but I just can't ignore that second year by Marino in this comparison, and all the accolades that came with it.

Cam may be the better quarterback in the long run, and hopefully he will actually win a title, but I don't think it is any slight against Cam to think Marino had a better first 2 years.

Games we won with Cam this year we would have LOST with Jake.

there's two and a half minutes left in the fourth and the panthers are nursing a 2 point lead. they drove to midfield before stalling out. the punt is downed at the opponents' 15.

if you're watching the 2005 panthers, you know a big stop or turnover is coming. if you're watching the 2012 panthers...

Actually I mentioned that to help point out why Cam isn't winning like Marino did his first two years. Marino had a more competent team around him.

carolina was carrying most of the parts of 2002's number 2 defense in the NFL (the bucs' 02 squad, one of the best defenses of all time, was number 1) over to 2003 and was hell bent on running the ball.

jake's 2003 stats are almost identical to cam's stats this season except he passed for fewer yards and threw five more interceptions that year. that should tell you something.

Jake was a better leader, emotional sparkplug and "professional".

Cam is by far the better QB and once he irons out a few things he still struggles with he could be legen...wait for it....dary.

Jake was also a veteran QB when he made his Panther debut

I remember when people said you didn't know anything about football if you thought Cam could play qb in the nfl. Two years later he statistically had the best first two seasons ever. I don't see how anyone can say Marino or anybody else was better. Numbers don't lie. You can't use wins as a point in the argument because that's a team stat. Everything else is personal opinion. Fact is Cam had the best first two seasons for a qb ever and he's a Carolina Panther.

been in the league for five years and was 28 years old in 2003. cam was 22. lots of life experience as an adult and a professional in those 6 years years.

can you imagine how much cam will have accomplished by the time he's the age jake was when he got his start?
