Panthers PR guy is tired of fictional stories about Cam

You are making a mockery of this.I do not care if Cam does his superman pose....what I said is why is it so surprising the media takes shots at him ?

This may be a surprise to you, but what I said had nothing to do with you or your personal opinions. More of a statement on the double standard the media has for Cam. When have you ever heard any other qb slammed for celebrating, and than equally slammed for not celebrating.

At the risk of being too vague do you listen to WFNZ between 3 and 7?

I started listening to 730 because I got tired of listening to Marc and Zarzour spend entire segments of their show talking about every negative thing they could come up with about Cam. Maybe they changed their tune by now...I dunno because I haven't turned their show on in months...but for a while there it was bordering on obsessive.

For whatever reason I usually end up listening to Mac attack or Busting loose. I think Frank Garcia in particular is pretty good.

I listen to the 3-7 show maybe once a month.

For nosuchthingasapanther (quote not working on phone today)...

I don't live in a "panther box" as you suggest, and religiously follow all things NFL.

Jarhead's response may have hit closest to the mark in comparing coverage of The Golden Calf of Bristol and Newton. The Golden Calf of Bristol gets more airtime than Cam, but both have their every action magnified. The Golden Calf of Bristol is usually cast as the "good guy" from a character standpoint, and Cam is too often the villain.

We know the media is largely a mirror of society at large, so what does it tell us about our values and stereotypes that these guys are thrust into these roles? And no, I'm not going down the race baiting road as it goes beyond that. Nor does anyone want another 20 page thread discussing all the reasons things are the way they are.

But to pretend that Cam has been treated and portrayed like everyone else suggests a terminal case of head in the sand disease.

True and false.

Yes, other players face heat. Newton is unique. Name another player in the last decade that entered the NFL with the national attention Newton was recieving. Newton is under a different microscope than most 2nd year players and was last year.

The Golden Calf of Bristol last year got far more attention than Cam has ever received from the national media (a lot of it was positive, but there were plenty of people calling him out too). You just notice it more because you're a panthers fan

People just need to ignore it. The negative press will eventually stop once he starts winning some games and making the playoffs. The media loves a "troubled player turning himself around" story, just look at all the stuff we heard about Vick when he was coming back. He was a changed person, he studied the plays so well, he was such an improved QB. Doesnt matter if the story makes sense or not, as long as it fits the narrative

Thats the only way they get people to listen is by creating a story out of nothing.Skip Bayless does the same thing on a national level.I just tune out all of those shows.

I'm not a blind homer Cam defender, but I've never seen an athlete as misunderstood and misrepresented as Cam is. A lot of that is perception, because we as fans of the Panthers, see the other side that the mainstream does not. But still, how can you watch that video of Cam mic'ed up at the Raiders and then call him a thug? He is very respectful to fans and refs, and he is very supportive of his teammates.

His personality is way closer to The Golden Calf of Bristol than the Jay Cutler meets Jamarcus Russel meets satan persona that the media has created for him.

Because stereotypes sell......that's why it's easy to label him a thug.

I do wish that he would do more interviews or show the public who he really is instead of hating all things media. I think it would go a long way towards letting people outside of those who follow the Panthers closely like us to see that he's a great guy and should be a fan favorite.

It doesn't matter once the media has their sights set on you.....you can bend and twist and do everything you can to please them and they will still dog you out. Mcnabb in Philly was always an open book to the Philly media and they still treated him like poo.

It does not matter to the media.
