Just rewatched the game. I remember the points chasing. What i did not remember was calling time out around the 20 with 1:40 left!!! Why Foxy WHY!!! Shoulda scored with about 20 seconds left instead of a minute ten!!!

I just can't bring myself to watch it again knowing the outcome. Never have I had the ups and the downs as a fan that year. Amazing season throughout, but now, it's just gutwrenching to even think back to those final moments of that 4th quarter.

Now that it's almost been nine years, I'm almost glad that we didn't win, in a way. I can tell you right now that it's going to mean so much more when we do win because of how close we were in that game and how long we'll have had to wait by the time we win a Super Bowl. When the Heels won it all in 2005, it was the first time one of my teams had won a title, and it came after nine years of me being a fan. It was an emotional night for sure, but it's not going to have the same meaning as when the Panthers win the Super Bowl. Carolina obviously has the tradition and the respect. But the Panthers are always overlooked, always disrespected... nobody ever gives them a chance. That's why it's going to mean so much on that glorious night when we finally win it all. I've pictured what that moment will be like countless times in my head... I can't wait to actually live it one day. The tears will be flowing, no doubt.

Agreed 100% with this. Man that loss hurt so bad. I was 21 years old at the time and it crushed me more than any sports loss before or after that. It's not even close. Re-watching it now I see gumbel and simms did nothing to capture the intensity and emotion of the game. At the time I was too invested to even pay attention to them but they almost sound bored. Even at the best points.
