I finally popped the question

Well guys, after dating the same wonderful young lady for almost five years, we have finally made it official and I asked her to marry me. Everyone is real excited and we are in the early stages of planning and all that. I feel like a really lucky guy because for some reason she is crazy about me.

If any of you have advice on planning a wedding or some do's and don'ts, please share them here, because I have no idea what is going on.

Some things I learned...

Do not send out Save the Dates to everyone you are inviting. Send them out to those closest to you.

We sent them out to our whole invite list and by the time 7-8 months rolled around there were people we wish we could remove and those we could add.

Go to as many "tastings" as you can. Good food and its a way to be involved which your bride to be will appreciate.

I would hire a "day of" coordinator as they take the pressure off on the day when everyone is relaxed. We hired one for her mother who always gets too involved in the details.

Interview several people for each position and choose who makes you the most comfortable within your budget,

Is it engagement season or something? I swear I know about 7 couples that got engaged in the last 3 days haha

Same here. I've seen at least 5 people I know get engaged since Thanksgiving.

It's something I'm considering as well. I've been dating my girlfriend for 7 years. She comes from a family of failed marriages though and she has made comments in the past that she didn't want to get married for that reason...so I'm afraid she'll say no.

My wedding is in 4 months. Let your woman plan the whole thing and always help when she asks. My responsibility was to plan our honeymoon but I did booked venue, dj, photographer, and limo. The first thing you need to do is to set your budget and attend wedding expos. Remember, wedding is mostly for the wifey to be... Also, do not go crazy... wedding lasts only 4-6 hours. Not worth spending all your life savings on it.

Seriously, congrats (I got married in Oct.) The wedding coordinator is a great idea for the day of the wedding. You both will have enough to worry about between now and the wedding. On that day you should be celebrating. Let someone else handle the details.

catfang and philly are both right... if she's the one for you, marriage can be awesome. I sincerely hope that is the case. Congratulations.

Panthro has good advice... he got married recently so listen to him.... otherwise, just do whatever she wants, but don't make it seem like you're not interested in making decisions. Even if you don't give a flying monkey poop what color the napkins are, pretend like you do and make a choice... then be ok with it when she says differently. :)
