Im on the fence regarding Rivera. I LOVED the hire, bc I knew he would turn our defense into a beast eventually. Then we got Cam and had a 6-10 season and things were looking up. 7 close losses this year and I was not liking Rivera as the head coach anymore although I agreed with the decisions he made. Now, it seems the team is finally buying in to what Rivera is wanting on defense and the offense is coming together again. I would give him one more year. The league adjusted to Cam and Chud, and now it appears Chud and Cam have adjusted to the league.

This team could have a bad start with a new head coach as well. I like the direction this team is headed.

How did firing Capers to hire Seiford work out? It has nothing to do with accepting mediocrity.The bottom line is none of us know what his line of thinking was regarding running the read option as our base offense was.On the surface he appears stupid but who the hell knows? Its all a calculated guess in my opinion.I can see the argument both ways.

He can't be on a short leash if he stays because all it's doing is adding more pressure on him and the team. If they let Rivera stay he should be able to go into next season comfortable about his job. If you have any doubts about whether he can do this or that then you let him go plain and simple. I have stated my opinion on this board multiple times about Rivera and I have my doubts about what he can do with this team.

I'll expand of my earlier post. I was in a hurry then. I really don'y understand why you think Rivera has done so bad. It takes time to take 2-14 team with a bunch of young guys and 3rd stringers to learn how to win in the NFL. Also It's Rivera's first head coaching gig so it was a learning curve. I think it is obvious that he has learned how to lead and motivate his team. The players love him and are playing their hearts out for him. The defense has become elite because of Rivera. He has taught every one of those guys how to make one-on-one tackles and how to be intimidating. It's true that we are only a few plays away from having a much better record and being in the playoffs. But that is part of the learning curve. You can't expect a first time head coach, rookie QB, and other young guys off the street to take the team to the super bowl. The team has been extremely respectable and are on an upward trend. It's not like we are 1 and 14 and not in any games. To tear it all apart now and bring in a new scheme would be the stupidest thing to ever happen in the history of the Panther's franchise. You know-it-all fans that think we have to bring in a whole new coaching staff every time we have a losing season really irk the poo out of me. It's absolutely ridiculous think. I'm just glad people like you are in charge of making any important decisions in the world.

JR has never fired a coach during the season, because he's a football guy and realizes what a pointless move that is. I believe Rivera is going to get one more season to show JR something. This team is "trending up" and both Cam and Luke are thriving in the current offensive and defensive systems.

I was on the "fire Rivera" bandwagon myself, but these last few games have earned him one more season in my book.

He's shown what he is and more importantly..what he isn't. What he is NOT is a coach who can adequately control a 23 year old superstar QB. He's not a coach who can make calls under pressure. He's not a coach who can manage the clock. He's not a coach who can handle adversity. Therefore...he is not a head coach.

I'm not convinced anyone can "control" Cam like you are suggesting, because I don't think he is out of control. I think he is passionate and that shows, and I think trying to force that passion out of him could be very detrimental.

To the topic at hand, unless we get completely blown out this weekend, I would be very surprised if Rivera were to be let go. Rivera has only had one full offseason with the players, the defense is playing well and the offense shows flashes. The one potential issue is the GM switch... a new GM may want a new HC.
